Lately my attitude towards Truthers has been becoming more and more hostile.

Like, I can remember a time where I could debate with a Truther casually as though I were discussing sports with a friend. Now, I get easily frustrated at them and tend to mock them without even thinking about it.

If this trend continues, I will become more and more hostile towards Truthers until one day I am another Beachnut (no offense, Beachnut).

Is this normal? y/n

It is important to me. Getting the history right is very important. Otherwise I wouldn't have been here. And I am hositle towards stupidity, especially truthers.

Actually, based upon what they deserve, he is very kind to them. I thought he was the Head of the JREF Welcoming Committee. Based on these comments, I guess not.

I do not know where else you post, but I have noticed the quality of the arguments from the CTists here has been going down in the past few months or so. Several of the people are still civil, but their rebuttals consist of little more than hand-waving, evasion, or references to proven lies, and it does get tiresome after a while. As Dave mentioned, this leads to DFS, which can lead to a short temper.

At this point, I will occasionally chime in with a point or two, but spend more time essentially hanging out with my virtual friends here, rather than getting worked up over someone who clearly either cannot or will not listen to counter-arguments.

Can't...keep up...the faith...much....longer.......

If you are certain you are correct, I can't imagine others being off would upset you.

On the other hand, if you are not certain you are correct...

Debunker Fatigue Syndrome, a classic case. Maybe you need to take a little time out, and remember, it's only important to them, not us.

Dave

I would tend to agree. While not much a debunker myself (still consider myself a student of the craft) watching the more informed debunkers and various experts in the various fields answer the same questions over and over and over again, I wonder how some people have any patience with individuals that won't pay attention to simple logic. The fact that so many noobie twoofers come asking questions and try to push the same debunked nonsense is a pretty clear indication that many of them don't spend much time actually researching things themselves.
1337m4n, I wouldn't dwell on it too much, maybe spend a little time away or in other forums, but most of all, don't let teh stoopid get you down!:p

I've said this before; they do this on purpose.

Their arguments are designed to be as much like arguing with a brick wall as possible. They accuse us of doing exactly what they are doing: if they are attacking strawmen, they accuse us of doing so, if they are dodging questions, they accuse us of doing so, if they are refusing to provide evidence, they accuse us of doing so etc.

Their goal is to frustrate everyone with a brain to the breaking point so they abandon the argument. The result is that everyone who is left (the brainless) comes to their side almost by default. They are willing to fight as dirty as necessary to earn their spoils of war.

That's what the ad hominems are about. That's what the specious web documentaries are about. That's what the quote-mining, arguing from incredulity, circular logic, fallacious reasoning, refusal to back down even when proven wrong, sticking fingers in their ears and screaming LA LA LA LA is all about.

Polls show that they've convinced millions, especially in other countries who haven't experienced our system of government first hand. It will take generations - if ever - do undo the damage this "Truth" Movement has done to America's reputation at home and abroad. Many people now believe Pearl Harbor was a LIHOP. Most people believe the JFK conspiracies. Will 9/11 Trooth have these kind of numbers in 40 years? 60 years? Unfortunately, I think so.

For the first time in my life I feel conflicted between my deep-seated passion for Free Speech and my disgust for what a group of people is saying. I will never stop hating this poisonous movement for making me feel that way.

If I could add one: That's what banning anyone who disagrees with them at CT sites is all about.

A suggestion: Back off the discussions for a while, and concentrate on Stundie nominations. It can defuse the hostility to concentrate on the absurdities for a bit.

Dave

Let's put it this way: I don't think the "YouTube generation" will ever be accused of being "the greatest generation". This instant gratification generation wants information NOW, truth be damned, and if they can't find it fast enough they'll just make it up, create a video spelling it out, and post it on YouTube.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Not really since Max is not hostile. The same can't be said for a majority of the official theory supporters, if you will.

There's hostility on both sides; it's a contentions subject. For example, Heiwa is hostile. Bofors is hostile. Do I continue?

That so many Truthers became fanatic followers of Ron Paul on the basis of a few minutes of YouTube footage is indeed scary.

I've posted in this subforum almost every day for a year and two-thirds. Getting away from it for a few days was great. I've been planning to spend much less time here, and just reading the thread titles after being away makes that decision easy: so much of this stuff is so completely absurd that it's horrifying.

max didnt even say anything about hostility, he just said that others bing wrong shouldnt bother us if we know we are right, and the same can be said of the truth movement

This is true. Just look at the endless sockpuppets they create in order to continue their mindless drivel. P'doh was up to something like 15+ sockpuppets quite some time ago, and, no doubt, he has created more since then.

The level of discussion and debate from twoofers has seriously declined over the past several months. Most of the ones who show up here now have mental health issues, or are just mindlessly rude.

The remaining minority, while often appearing polite, are either one-trick ponies or shy away from answering straight questions, constantly move goal posts, constantly quote mine, never admit their errors even when they are pointed out with startling clarity, criticize the spelling, grammar and punctuation of others (often responding to a detailed post with nothing but a grammatical or spelling quibble even though they commit numerous similar errors themselves), and then run away from threads after painting themselves in a corner from which they cannot extract themselves without having to *egads* either admit that they have no evidence in support of their accusations or withdraw the baseless accusations.

It is normal. It is frustrating to know that no matter how many facts and how much evidence you calmly, rationally and convincingly provide, that there are certain segments of the twoofer population (see above) who will simply stick their fingers in their ears, shouting, "Lalalalalala, I can't hear you," like five year olds, and then return over and over and over again with the same old long-debunked nonsense.

A short respite might be order. Or, you could use the "pause before you post" method. Or, you could just go with it and get it out of your system. Whichever works for you. ;)
