What does the term "Partisan Politics" mean to you?

Putting party before principle.

(Or common sense etc...)

See the now happily defunct Crossfire that was on CNN for details.

People with differing opinions debate important issues. Other people whine about how everybody doesn't just all agree to share the same opinion as the whiner. Also, rhetoric is used.

The moment somebody's idea of principle or common sense deviates from yours, they're "partisan".

The moment whose idea of principle or common sense deviated from whose?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. Or who you are addressing. Are you just thinking out loud?

"If only they stopped agreeing with other people, and just agreed with me!"

I agree that this could be considered partisan, yes.

Perhaps I didn't formulate my own post very clearly so I'll try and clarify now:

Putting one's own party before one's own principle.

Or even one's own idea of common sense.

That's quite good. :)

Anyone else want to have a bash at answering?

Promoting a policy position that one believes is bad, in order to strengthen one's own party politically.

It means that the other side are unreasonable obstructionist bastards who are doing their utmost to sabotage our side´s selfless attempts to get things done for the good of the nation.

My Way or NO Way thinking. Compromise a dirty word.

When I think of "partisan" I think of people who hold their beliefs like religious dogma. Who assert them as articles of faith, believing in them not just in the absence of evidence but in the face of evidence to the contrary. Arguments with them go on forever because they can never budge even an inch from their initial biased opinions.

In other words, most people on the internet.
