What causes this type of behavior to be localized ??

I've just been to Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ and left at closing time, as the masses emptied to go home for the night. Now, I've done this (recently) at a good number of other major theme parks as well (Dorney Park, Hershey Park, Sea World, Disney World's Parks ... you get the point). Only in the NJ park was the parking lot the equivalent of a dump. Garbage strewn about everywhere -- and in abundance. To call it the result of pigs would insult our porky friends. So, why is it not just so blatant -- but why only in this park to this degree?

Don't they hire Mexicans to pick that stuff up? That's why you don't find that kind of stuff here, you litter indiscriminately it might be someone in your family picking it up.

NJ is close to NY, isn't it?

I've always been struck by the garbage I see everywhere when visiting NY, just coming in from the airport.

You don't see it in Tampa and, for that matter, you don't see it in many poorer parts of the world either. I was in Lima Peru not too long ago. Not a pretty city by any means, but I noticed the lack of trash pretty quickly. Perhaps they recycle more?

I agree, Elind. Once, after arriving on a late flight into La Guardia from Italy my wife and I saw, not only garbage, but a BIG pool of uncongealed blood. It did make me look over my shoulder.

I've also visited other countries and was surprised by their lack of litter, but I attributed it to the likelihood that they simply make less garbage than we do.

I just mentioned this to my neighbor and she commented on how the bathrooms at Liberty State Park (also right next to NYC) were an abomination -- litterally they were trashed.
