Atheists often present themselves as rational and unprejudiced people. I think this is only a mask of their deep bigotry and hatefulness against anyone who thinks in a different way, say, theists or agnostics. For that reason I'm inclined to call them the Materialist Inquisition, although they are more inquisitorial (**) than materialist, and more emotional than scientific.

Well, a few weeks ago I joined "Atheist vs. God". I detected their hostility at first sight, but I pretended to ignore it for the sake of further discussions. However, someone in that community pushed it too far and forced me into a kafkian process as follows:

1) Otto accuses me of plagiarism without any valid proof.

2) I energically deny the charges.

3) Adrian, Sinbad, ASeaOfSins, Sirplus1 and WD join the accusation, being many of them well known for their responsabilities in the message board. Their only argument against me is they trust Otto.

4) I repeatedly prove them that Otto's plot -which he kept changing all the time- is wrong and malicious.

5) Now, although nobody has retracted, only Otto and Adrian maintain the accusation. Plus, two of Otto's comrades, Jon and drmcf, seem to give credibility to my claims:

Let's assume for the moment you're telling the truth, irichc (Jon).

I understand your anger... if you are correct, but I don't think you are seeing things from Otto's perspective (drmcf).

Nevertheless, they don't dare to blame Otto's temerity.

6) So I give Otto an ultimatum: if he doesn't apologize in time, I will spread the thread containing his false accusations.

7) Otto hasn't apologized yet.

8) Administrators have banned me unfairly.

Please, to check the veracity of my version, read this thread from message #5:

Greetings.

Daniel.

(**) inquisitorial - especially indicating a form of prosecution in which proceedings are secret and the accused is questioned by a prosecutor who acts also as the judge.

Sounds like you could switch all your terms around .. Atheist, theist, agnostic... and stilll have a valid point..

Been over to ' RaptureReady ' lately ? Atheists are quickly banished if they try to present their views...

Sounds like people being people to me..

Welcome to the JREF forums.. Lets hear what you have to say..

And you can see if things are different here..

P.S..

You can't have " Atheist vs God "... It would be like one team showing up for the game...

Gosh darn it, rebecca, can't you stop whining?

Well I asked her to apologize but she wouldn't so I made it my life's mission to tell everyone I ever knew about how evil Julie is. If you see her, throw a rock at her.

Thanks.

Out of interest, what is your atheist vs God case?

I have a case against Mickey Mouse.

You see, he's just a bunch of drawings that are photographed on film with a voice actor (several over the years) making a squeaky voice for him.

You seem to be spamming forums with this.

Do a google search for "Any proposition is meaningless or meaningful", and then look at the cached copy.

Here, too.

I could see where someone would quickly claim they've seen the post before, anyway.

Go ahead and tell the 'world wide web' that evildave called you a spammer. I don't mind.

...

Oh wait, never mind. Otto & company already found a bunch of links where he spammed.

You make an interesting point, but it is not limited to behavior of atheists. The behavior is typical of any zealous individual on any given position (whether it be religion or politics or sports or medicine).

Welcome to the internet where Publicity + Anonymity often lurks Hostility and Hard-headedness. There is nothing I can do about that, unfortunately.

I recommend you find a new board if this Atheists vs. God board is giving you problems... or troll, whatever option you find more appealing, but please do not pigeonhole one group as you did in your above paragraph.

As an atheist, I don't hate theists. They amuse me because of their wanton disregard of reality, but I still respect their being.

As for agnostics - saying "I don't know" is very sane. I admire agnostics more than I admire theists.

Or, as Penny Arcade says,
Anonomity+Audience=F$#ktard.

Agreed w/ Yahweh. Although I might raise the point that groups, particularly of the religious variety get pidgeonholed here w/ a fair amount of frequency. Atheists get pidgeonholed too in these forums. One group is seen as irrational science haters who worship the equivilant of Mickey Mouse. The other is catagorized as the more rational, logical, and by some views, better than those fluff ball believers. Labelling happens. *shrugs* I will say people seem more polite here than on other boards, and for that, I think these forums are a bit above the rest. Welcome to the forums.:)

I think what we need to understand here is that the pendulum swings to both extremes, and we should attempt to find the happy medium in between.

So you are going to take the behaviour of a few individuals and apply it to an entire group?

How Christian of you.

Rats! Now you've got me doing it.

¡Hombre, Fedro! ¿Tú por aquí también? En fin, nada, que te sea leve, que aquí tampoco se van a dejar engañar por tu verborragia.

Is this the "post your links to other posts in order to increase their view count" thread???

(with tongue firmly in cheek) Then they are not true Atheists, a true atheist would never behave as you have described.:p

Not sure I entirely agree, but I see where you're coming from. One thing that impresses me about this board is that people who present their ideas properly seem to get a fair reception, and those being beligerent, ignorant or trolly get a roasting. There might be differences according to the belief being supported, but not as polarised as on some other boards.
