Why are there so many declarations of war on so many things?

What is the obsession of American groups or politicians with waging war:

on crime?

on homelessness?

on poverty?

on terrorism?

on pornography?

on drugs?

SO many wars! Is America making any progress on all these fronts? How do taxpayers in the United States view the constant protracted State of War they have been in over the many decades in all these "war theatres"?

War has never been declared on those things. Its just a marketing term.

Sort of like putting "X" before eveything in order to make it sound hip.

Expensive.

The reason that the word "WAR" is used is that it carries with it: a sense of right and wrong; a dynamism; an objective of "victory". This is obviously lacking from any of the deeds which become part of this "war".

I suggest that the word velleity is used instead in future

vel·le·i·ty ( P ) Pronunciation Key (v-l-t, v-)
n. pl. vel·le·i·ties
Volition at its lowest level.
A mere wish or inclination.
