Wales to ban e-cigarettes in public places

I don't know whether this will change the laws, or indeed public opinion but according to the Royal College of Physicians, e-cigarettes are much safer than cigarettes and are an aid towards stopping smoking.

They're apparently not entirely risk free:

And in terms of long-term health hazards, e-cigarettes are at least 95% safer than regular cigarettes - something Public Health England has also said.

But that does not mean they are entirely risk-free.

Prof Simon Capewell, of the Faculty of Public Health, said there were still many unknown factors.

So there may be unknown-unknowns

Here's a fuller assessment of the risks of e-cigarettes:

Lawmakers passed a crippling 40 percent tax on e-cigarette and vaping liquid inventories, retroactive to Oct. 1, which has small business operators fuming and on the verge of losing their livelihoods.
According to some estimates, 92 percent of Pennsylvania’s 300 vape shops could close as a result of the 40 percent wholesale tax and new federal regulations that require shop owners to pay for FDA approval for homemade vaping liquids. FDA application costs could top $100,000.

Another report:

http://www.poconorecord.com/article/20160730/NEWS/160739985

The state has also added a possible 5- year prison term and $5,000 fine for those who try to buy the products off the internet or from out of state without paying the tax

Sounds like an intent to kill e-cigs, or at least any small e-cig business.

I'm against smoking big time (Not because of the health risks ... I just don't like the smell) ... but I let people vape in my house ... it leaves no lingering odour that I've noticed and lets them stay inside so the conversation flows better.

I notice people who smoke as well as vape can stay off cigarettes for HOURS if they are allowed to vape.

That's basically all I know about the subject :)

Yeah the research jury is still out regarding the possible health issues of vaping, but almost everyone accepts its vastly safer than smoking.

Lots of regulatory changes incoming for all jurisdictions you would think. Some will be negative of course, but some of it may be beneficial. I have to order my nicotine from China as I can't buy it in Australia for instance. It would be good to be able to shop locally.

I have no kind of "philosophical objection" to vaping. I just don't like the smell of vape-cloud; it's less objectionable than cigarette smoke certainly but still terrible.
