wacko website alert

"We are already used to hearing the phrase 'alternative medicine'. In future we are going to become used to hearing people talk of 'alternative physics', 'alternative chemistry', 'alternative biology' -- even 'Alternative Science'."

Richard Milton: Alternative Science, 1994.

His site is kind of a joke, it's a front to sell his silly books.

Check out the awards his site has won,

http://www.alternativescience.com/awards.htm

By about page 3 he seems to have run out of ideas for awards and just went clip-art crazy.

have people seen this bizarre site?

You must have with it's anti Randi propaganda.

Not recommended for the easily influenced.
Hi Temp3st, welcome to the forum.

Milton's website isn't unknown to us here and, unfortunately, uses the same tried, tired tirades to try to poke holes in the JREF challenge.

Randi addresses both the 'Randi's Million' page and the Kolodzey letter in the commentary dated 5th July 2002. A further response can be found in the 19th December 2003 commentary.

Some of that 'alternative science' seems to appear again and again. Here's a clip of Troy in action. I think I'll take my chances with Dennis Lee.

I know this has been brought up before... but you gotta love him contradicting his own arguments...

The second ambiguity is in Clause 4, which says that "Tests will be designed in such a way that no "judging" procedure is required. Results will be self-evident to any observer, in accordance with the rules which will be agreed upon by all parties in advance of any formal testing procedure taking place."

This means, quite reasonably, that there will be no interminable arguments by 'experts' over statistical measurements. Either the spoon bends or it doesn't: either the claimant reads minds or he doesn't. The written rules, agreed up front, will decide.

But then he says...

Not only will Randi be the sole judge of whether the claimant is successful, but even if a claimant appeals on scientific grounds that he has met the agreed terms of the challenge, Randi will be the sole arbiter of any appeal as well. Randi says there will be "no judging". In reality, he is both judge and jury -- not only of the claimant's cause but of his own cause as well.

Now he just said that the rule was reasonable and there would be no interminable arguments... but then he puts his foot in his mouth and says Randi judges the success. HUH???

These awards were an interesting way to scam people into providing a link back in the early days of the Internet.... hey, you and 100,000 other crappy websites have just won our award for excellence. Please post this graphic with a link to our site and....

Now, I know I've never been to every place on the Web, but there's not ONE award there that I've even remotely heard of....
