I heard about this ten years ago.
http://www.angelfire.com/biz5/piso/

Quick summary, the Roman Piso family wrote the Gospels. It is hard to sum it up, but it is an extensive theory that goes into great detail of the hows and whys.

In my experience, the author gets hammered by just about everyone, and might be trying to sell a book, or books on the matter.

I'm not going to flog his cause, but for those interested in wacky ideas, this one is up there with the best, except Scientology of course, which is the obvious winner.

WHO WROTE THE NEW TESTAMENT?

The authorship of the New Testament books have been discovered. For years, the book
"The True Authorship of the New Testament" has been out and many persons have been
discovering this as well.

Now, we feel that it is time to put this information out on the Net. There has been a few
WebPages on the Net telling about how and why the Roman Piso family authored the New
Testament. But there had yet to be the information on who wrote each of the New Testament
books. So, here you will find out who wrote what. This information is copyrighted and
cannot be posted fully on the Internet. However, there is enough information here so that
persons can grasp the fact that this is real and that they can research it further as well as
find books that will help to explain this in more detail.

The part I found most interesting was that the Romans wanted to destroy the Jews, because the Jews were against slavery, and Christians were told, by the Christian writings, to obey their masters, (The Romans), which is irony, of some sort, what with Christianity taking over Rome.

Like I said, it is wack. If nobody wants to discuss it, I understand. Mostly people have wanted to discuss why the author is a nut. Go figure.

America's Whig Founder recognized Rome as "the real Anti-Christ," analyzing and rejecting the core elements of the Jesus Myth (Re: his letter to Peter Carr on scholarship), and, in fact, Whig Theory holds that all history unfolds as the result of the conflict between Rome (driven by their "New Testament," and its unwitting agents) and everyone else.

Crucifixion, under codified Roman law, was the specific and unique punishment for only one offense, and no other: The second conviction for Sedition. Tens of thousands under the "Pax Romana" were, accordingly, crucified.

Given the obvious borrowing of an "updated," anthropomorphized version of the Egyptian Horus myth, for the Jesus/Mary/Joseph characters of Rome's "New Testament," and the continuity of Rome's most benefited "Black Aristocracy," yet living on the same hills, and in the same castles, for the last two and three thousand years: their success in creating a "history" to effectively serve their interests is indisputable.

The Dead Sea Scrolls seem to be credible, recounting details of Rome's invasion and occupation. Over a period of hundreds of years the little Hebrew nation was finally subjugated and its religion "replaced."

The "Piso" explanation for authorship of the work, so easily recognized as "magical," serving the criminal Roman elite so well, is as good as any.

This isn't meant to be an ad hominem attack, but I would advise looking over iAmerican's posts in the Conspiracy Theories section before responding to anything he/she/it says. You probably won't get anywhere if you try.

The Romans didn't invent Christianity, but they certainly took advantage of it after the fact in order to consolidate their political power. Sound familiar?

Also, there's already been a discussion on the alleged Jesus/Horus linkage, and it's been found to be mostly bunk. Yes, they share the same literary archetype of the divine hero character, but they are not the same. There is little corroborating evidence for many of the similarities that people like Massey (sp?) claim exist.

Paul largely structured what we consider modern Western Christianity he was a Roman Citizen so.......

Theres a history channel documentory on the Bible I saw called Banned From The Bible that explains that it wasn't the Romans who invented Christianity the religion was already in existance.
BUT one night Emperor Nero had a vision of a flaming cross and was told in the vision something along the lines of either "Conquer in this sign" or "In tis you will conquer" well at least along that line.
Any way can't remember who he conquered but he won his next battle and then converted to Christianity, made it Romes new religion and helped put together the Bible as we now know it.
So be sure to thank the Romans who killed Jesus Christ for helping to shape the Bible.
I may not be correct on this but thats what the documantary said.

It was Emperor Constantine the Great before the Battle of the Milvian Bridge in the early 4th Century A.D. who is meant to have seen the vision and heard the phrase "In hoc signis vincit". He was looking for a unifying faith for the empire which had been split politically under Diocletian and the evidence tends to suggest that until his death he swithered between supporting Christianity or Sol Invictus as the imperial cult.

And if you look at early Chrsitianity it would also seem that the Pauline version which is the foundation of all our modern christian faiths was heavily influenced by the culture of Hellenistic Greeks in the near east more than the Roman cults. Paul was however a ROman citizen as a Hellenised Jew from tarsus, that much is true.
