Every night in the run-up to Christmas thousands of Egypt's Coptic Christians have been gathering in a Cairo suburb eager for a glimpse of a vision that has given hope to their marginalised community.

It is three hours past midnight in Al-Warrak, a poor working class neighbourhood of the Egyptian capital, and a 10,000-strong crowd is silently staring at the sky.

Then the appearance of a mysterious light over the church tower jolts the gathering into a frenzy of cries and ululations. It is the apparition of the Virgin Mary, they say.

Thousands have been coming nightly since the first sighting of the Virgin Mary on December 10, in the hope of being blessed by her light.
...
Others on the street began to notice the light and saw a bird circling above the church. At around 2 am, a vision of the Virgin Mary in her white and blue robes appeared, Fishay said.

But Muslim residents of the area insist it is a hoax, with someone creating the image with laser beams.
...
"The apparition of the Virgin Mary means that Christianity is real and the Bible is real," he said.

Bad quality video:

After supposedly having one child 2000 years ago isn't the virgin thing wearing a lot thin ?

I seem to remember that the mythical Mary had at least one other kid the very unmythical old-fashioned way after Jeebus, so the "virgin" thing isn't even accurate anymore.

.
I remember hearing that in high school, from a guy that was going to play one of jeebus' brothers in a religious play.
Staunch mackeral snapper that I was back then, I was somewhat taken aback, but probably didn't pursue it, knowing (then) all religions other than Catholic were bogus anyway.
The Creed says "Blessed Mary, ever virgin", that settles it! :)

There are two references to Jesus's siblings that I've heard...

A couple of years ago, there was an ancient ossuary that someone tried to pass off as belonging to James, brother of Jesus. That turned out to be a fraud, but...

A resident at my dad's nursing home told me one day that Jesus had siblings and their descendents were living in Manitoba. Since that hasn't been disproven, I believe a rewriting of the Creed is in order now.:)

Brace yourself.. The following can be considered "heresy".
The interpretation of religious texts requires some playing fast and loose with the meanings of words. (Not to the extent Limbo and yrreg do though.)
The Catholic "brethren" in the NT were members of what's-his-name's posse.
Not the sharers of 1/2 his DNA.
Hangers-on, depending on the odd miracle or alms-giving for their sustenance.
Those bent-on-Hell Protestants corrupted the pure word to mean Mama did the nasty with Joseph.
Did not! :)

So Jesus had siblings, or not, depending on the brand of Christianity. It's a good thing I'm not religious. I can't keep all these different sects and their interpretations straight.

Oy vey!

There is another thread for this copic church sighting, and it seems those "sighting" have been going on for a while , I'll try to find the thread and post the link here.

Do the Copts still encourage castration? 'Cuz that could make you see things.
