The new Punch Out for Wii has been out for a few weeks now and it's finally time for someone to be upset by something about it.

Our self proclaimed "pundit" believes that the character Bald Bull can be heard saying the phrase "Allah Akbar"

The Shock! The Horror! The ... what? You aren't outraged that a video game character that comes from Turkey, a predominently Muslim country might say possibly say a common arabic phrase?

Don't worry, he'll help you by launching into fearmongering and try to imply that it's only said prior to committing terrorist acts, complete with 9/11 footage.

Just a quick heads up, the first third of the video is the guy stroking his own ego about owning a bunch of consoles and running an ebay store with positive feedback.

The guy is obviously trying to stir up controversy with great quotes such as (bolding mine):

Allah Akbar or God Is Great. For those of you that don't understand the implications of this. Let me put it to you this way. Virtually Every Muslim Terrorist has said this before they blew themselves up or in the case of 9-11, before they slammed into buildings...

Not even 8 years after 9-11 and are we going to accept this phrase in a video game Rated E for Everyone. What do the families of these heinous crimes think of this? Someone out there has to be appalled, I'm certain of that.

No, the boxer was really saying "Rob Kahala" if you do a reverse speech analysis using the latest in pareidolia technologies.

Now just who "Kahala" is, Wii is not telling.

Thoughts:

1. It's not "Allah Ackbar." It's "Allahu Akbar."
2. The assertions (at about 2:05) that none of Bald Bull's moves in the new game are the same as the old one, and that he "even looks different" are false. Not particularly relevant, but it doesn't say a lot for this commentator's credibility.
3. Where was this guy when the US-led IGC redesigned the Iraqi flag and left this terrorist slogan on it? I'm being sarcastic, of course. The Takbir is on the Iraqi flag, both as designed by Saddam and as redesigned by the IGC, and as more recently redesigned by the Iraqi Parliament, because (to simplify a bit), it's a Muslim thing, not a terrorist thing.
4. Apart from the Iraqi flag (and that of Afghanistan and Iran), this is a really common phrase for Muslims to say. The fact that this guy only thinks of it as something they say before doing a terrorist attack basically says to me that he only thinks of Muslims at all in terms of terrorist attacks.
5. In the original Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! (and I'm guessing in the new one, but I don't know), Glass Joe is introduced by the opening strains of La Marseillaise, a song French republicans sang during the bloody French Revolution. It makes me wonder if this guy was upset about Glass Joe's implicit threat to drench the furrows of France with Little Mac's impure blood?
6. It's "Istanbul," not "Instanbul."
7. It wouldn't surprise me overmuch if Nintendo was attempting to have Bald Bull utter the Takbir. They do like to adorn the Punch Out characters with all the (stereo)typical trappings of their nationalities.
8. But the guy's argument basically boils down to: Muslims did 9/11, so any depiction of Muslims doing something those terrorists did is an insult to the families of 9/11, despite the fact that a billion-odd non-terrorist Muslims do the same thing every day.
9. He makes himself look really silly by referring to that thing with the doll.

The guy will go berserk if he ever sees "Total War:Medival" with it's Jerusalem 1187 campaign.......

Wait a second here. You're telling me that in a game filled with subtle racist stereotypes this guy is getting upset that they're at least trying to be accurate? :faint:

A Turk is more likely to speak Turkish than Arabic, even the Muslim ones.

Allow me revise my disbelief.

Wait a second here. You're telling me that in a game filled with subtle racist stereotypes this guy is getting upset that they're using subtle racist stereotypes. :faint:

Too long; didn't watch

"...when the gay mafia..."

"40% of women are solid"

POTUS.."he is a marxist"..."Obama is a total misogynist"

All that the guy does is rant.

If you disrespect Nintendo then U R MR GAY

Just wait until they hear about Assassin's Creed where you play an Arab assassin killing Christian Crusaders.

"President Obama wore shoes on his feet today. For those of you that don't understand the implications of this. Let me put it to you this way. Virtually Every Muslim Terrorist was doing this before they blew themselves up or in the case of 9-11, before they slammed into buildings... "

It all makes sense now.

Virtually Every Muslim Terrorist has said this before they blew themselves up or in the case of 9-11, before they slammed into buildings...

Virtually everybody says "yeah" when having sex, at some point. Therefore, ANY video game or movie that uses that phrase is hinting at sexual intercourse! The Horror!!!

The silly nationality stereotypes were part of what made Punch Out great.

And then there's Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2...maybe we shouldn't even go there.

This pareidolia is retarded. I can hear the supposed phrase and it is disjointed. Alah!!! Punch Punch Punch Blammoo and then he continues on with the phrase?? Nah.... Its just grunting. And because this is the most hilarious thing I have seen in a while:

Thanks for this video. It just confirms my point 2 above that this guy doesn't know what he's talking about when he says that BB's moves are different and he looks different. I invite comparison:

It's not identical, but the biggest difference between the two besides graphics and sound is that they fired Mario as referee.

And the people who blow up abortion clinics are praying to God, therefore anyone praying to God is blowing up an abortion clinic. Lock up Christians!
Back to reality... there's nothing during the fight that even sounds like speech. The CLOSEST he comes is inarticulate grunting that sort of sounds like "a LAH!", but could very well be "ah HAH!" or something.
Oh, and the video linked in the OP has the audio heavily edited, actually taking different grunts and editing them together.

People who want to be offended seem to be pretty darn easy to offend.

Example: Some years ago, there was a game called "Pharoah", where you build ancient Egyptian cities. You could worship gods like Ra and Osiris, and they might do something for you - better flood, a little something in your storage yards, etc. On the "Pharoah" forums, there was a person who was seriously offended by the suggestion that non-Christian gods may have an effect on people's lives, even in a computer game.

So...what's his weakness? Does he observe salat before throwing a big right hand?
