A disciple of Immanuel Velikovsky named Robert Fritzius has joined a discussion at the Chicago Astronomer message board. Fritizius claims that flu epidemics come here from Venus.

Fritzius is one of those featured at one of my favorite sites: http://www.crank.net. Once there, go to Contents-Velikovsky-Shade Tree Physics. Then look up his articles under the headings Velikovsky and Venus.

To read the current hilarious discussion that includes Fritzius at the Chicago Astronomer, click: http://astronomer.proboards23.com/i...n=display&thread=1137577881&page=1#1137892250 . You may have fun taking part in the fray. ;)

Velikovsky?!! I thought we heard the last of him decades ago!

Well, I guess as longs as there are still woos in the world, Velikovsky will continue to live...

There's some pretty good evidence for this here. Velikovsky is first mentioned in post #16...

Why, of course flu viruses come from Venus!

And greenhouse gases come from Uranus!

<ba-dum-crash>

Back in 1980, when the canine parvovirus thing first hit the popular press, the explanation given in the Sun for the simultaneous appearance of the brand new virus in three widely separated continents was that it had fallen from outer space.

So, the Sun says viruses can fall from space, who are we to argue? :D

Rolfe.

No kidding. I was pretty sure Sagan was canonized for panning him too.
Yes, Sagan spent a chunk of of 'Broca's Brain' carefully pulling Velikovsky's theories to pieces; he examined each one of the claims one by one and proved them all wrong. His (Sagan's) justification for giving the old man all this attention was to disprove the alt-science claims that scientists were trying to suppress his 'discoveries'.
It soesn't seem to have been entirely successful.
