Each year at TAM we usually have a group that organizes to see Penn and Teller at the Rio. Unfortunately this year they are dark July 8-12 so we may have to find another form of entertainment for Wednesday July 10th.

Has anyone had experience with the Cirque du Soleil shows? Or perhaps a favorite from this list:

Zarkana - at the Aria, no show 7/9-11
Mystère -- at TI, no show 7/10-12
"O" - at Bellagio, no July dates posted yet
Zumanity - at New York, New York, no show 7/10-11
KÀ - MGM grand, 2 shows a day (7 and 9:30)
The Beatles LOVE - at Mirage, no show 7/9-10
CRISS ANGEL Believe - at Luxor, 2 shows daily (7 and 9:30)

Le Reve - no show 7/10-11
Mac King - Harrahs, afternoon show 1 and 3:00
David Copperfield - MGM grand, 7 and 9:30

I've seen the following:

Mystère - Very good. You won't be disappointed. I saw it way back in 2002, so some of the acts might have changed since then. But, I think some of the other Cirque shows are even better than this one!

"O" - One of the 3 Best Cirque shows I have seen! It's just opulent all around!

KÀ - Also one of the 3 Best Cirque shows I have seen!
(The other was La Nouba in Florida.)

The Beatles LOVE - A great, fun show! But, go into it with the attitude that it is going to be more like a dance show (with high production values), rather than a circus show. It has some circus-like acts, but it is less "circusy", overall, than the others. Makes for a great date night, if that happens to be what you are looking for.

Mac King - A respectable comedy magic show, for the whole family!

I am still a little morbidly curious to see what "CRISS ANGEL Believe" is like. I've heard mostly bad reviews since it opened. Though, I think they might have improved it, somewhat, since then. I might be willing to see this if the tickets are cheap.

(I usually don't care about ticket price. I could put down $200 for a good show, easily. But, for something that has a reputation for being a train wreck, I am more hesitant to do that.)

David Copperfield might be a better option, for me, if we're going for magic. I have never seen him perform live, yet. And, I hear he is a little less arrogant than Criss Angel.

I almost saw Le Rêve and Zarkana (when that was in NY). I suppose I could still see those, now, if we're going for Circus shows.

The only one on your list I don't think I would bother seeing is Zumanity. I'm just not into burlesque, really.

I'll come along to either Mac King, which was the highlight of the whole weekend for me at TAM9, or Copperfield if people are going. Also for P&T if anybody is interested in going after the 12th, especially if they do a 2for1 or similar again.

I'm also keen to see P&T after TAM, they have shows on 15-17th. Was considering 17th but happy to make it earlier if people are heading home before then.

Also interested in a pre-TAM show but I'm not into Cirque Soleil or Copperfield. Mac King sounds ok but will also keep a look out for other shows being announced.

Zooterkin mentioned on the TAM thread that he may go to see P&T again too. Anyone else?

Yes--I'd probably like to see them again, though I'm still finalizing my travel plans.

Mac King is terrific, BTW. :)

Hadn't heard of King, but Wowbagger said he does a comedy magic show so he sounded more interesting than Copperfield. I've since checked his website and he looks fun. He's educational too as I learned that a fig roll is called a fig newton in the US and that Harrah is not pronounced as in 'Hurrah' :-)

While you are organising yourself, maybe a long-TAMer can say how best to organise theatre* trips and collect ticket money for a group from around the world.

*I should type 'organize theater' trips as we're talking USofA ! :)

Well, I know on occasion people have purchased tickets on their own and just shared transportation to the show and maybe a meal before or after.

For Mac King's show a couple of years back there was a volume discount, so after things were organized here on the forum I volunteered to buy the tickets, and then everyone paid me on the day (meeting at either the South Point's Del Mar Lounge or even at the venue), which was not a problem (Mac King's show is relatively inexpensive :D).

P+T group bookings need 10 people, so I think that's out.

I know there's a place in Vegas where you can get cheap tickets on the performance day, but that means there's a risk of not seeing them if they are sold out, and I'd prefer to pay full price rather than take that chance.

P+T are $80-105ish, probably too pricey for any one person to buy four or five tickets. If someone who is going has a paypal account (I don't) we could maybe pay that person in advance and they could buy the tickets? Or, once we've picked a performance, someone buy a ticket and post the seat/row number here and we can all buy our tickets nearby?

We don't have to sit together, of course, I'm ok sitting on my own, but for a show like theirs it might be nice for Jreffers to oooh and aaaah in unison? :D

Let us know when you have sorted your travel dates and we can pick a show date.

joolz, I would be willing to go to P&T with you on Sunday night.

I am kinda leaning toward seeing Mac King on Wednesday afternoon. Then perhaps go to Freemont Street Experience on Wednesday night and Ka or Copperfield on Friday night since I personally don't care about ¡SATIRISTAS!.

Wow that would be 4 magic shows in 5 days (since Sat night is the Jamy Ian Swiss event at TAM) Perhaps Ka would be better than Copperfield just for variety's sake.

I'll probably be up for seeing P&T On Sunday too.

Just a couple of comments about the show options, from someone that has seen most of them:

Zarkana - A fine show for someone with no cirque experience - middle of the road cirque - more accessible than most. Really a "tent" cirque show with better production value. Solid, middle of the road choice.
Mystère -- Great option, again prob best for cirque newbies. Artsy, but not too far afield. I do not think you can go wrong here.
"O" - I am in the minority, but find this way overrated. I get the water gimmick, and it has its share of amazement, but I was bored for long stretches.
Zumanity - the one I have not seen.
KÀ - My personal favorite. What I like about cirque is the athletic, action stuff - and this has it in spades. And my co-worker, who I brought along, was reduced to tears. The reason i recommend this so highly is that you CANNOT see something like this anywhere else. The staging alone is worth the money.
The Beatles LOVE - really disliked this. As noted earlier in the thread, this is a dance show much more than a cirque show. If you prefer that, or if you are really into the Beatles, then you will love this. But its the least Cirque-y of the lot.
CRISS ANGEL Believe - I have seen this TWICE! And I say that without shame. It is better than it used to be. Damning with faint praise, I know. But the cirque elements have been removed, and whats left is an average magic show. Not recommended, but neither will it ruin your trip.

Le Reve - Not recommended. If this is your thing, see "O" - and not this knock off.
Mac King - Fantastic - I have seen at least a half dozen times. But be aware this is a "small" show - not vegas-y, not spectacular, just immaculately designed, written, and performed. I love it unconditionally.
David Copperfield - I am a magic nut - which should be clear from the above. DC's current show may be the best classic magic show in the world. It is my favorite that he has ever put on. It is amazing, spectacular, and a real fooler. If you like magic at all, you cant go far wrong here. Yeah, he can be a little ....odd, performance wise, but that is the character he's landed on. Like S&R, or Liberace, or for that matter P&T, its part of a greater presentation. Works for some, works less well for others. But the magic? Spectacular.
