I'm in the middle of a projected 360min burn to svcd. I burned a couple at vcd it took only 90 to 120 min. seing as i have 4hrs to wait for a direct comparison. any thoughts? :(

I found that if you use a good codec (TMPGEnc) then the VCD quality is perfectly ok. Given that SVCDs are compatible with less players, I never found the (IMO) slight extra quality worth the extra effort.

But now that DVD burners are so cheap, why bother with VCDs and SVCDs at all?

I just have to second that.

The 8x multi-format's are out from the big players now, and they just announced the first dual layer writer.

Vcd's are sooooo 8 track.

I still have an 8-trak stereo W/ Quadrophonic sound gathering dust in the garage. (punishment for eating Zepelin 4:( )

The laptop has a cd burner and i don't want to drop that kind of coin to upgrade to Dvd burning. I'll Probably stick with VCD.

the house machine might get a dvd-r+r/alphabet combo drive for it's birthday!:D

thanks people.
