Vanishing directories! Am I going mad?

So I was saving a bunch of files (from a couple of (non-pornographic) Swiss webcams, if you must know) in a directory called "Swiss". I was doing this both at work and at home. In both cases (though about 2 or 3 days apart) the directory and its contents were removed.

I have no idea what happened to them. If it were only at work, I'd think it was just someone else on my machine; but I doubt very much that my better half deleted the folder here, and it would be too much of a coincidence that it was only a folder called "Swiss" and containing only jpegs in both cases.

Is there something magical about the word Swiss? Or about the number of jpegs in a folder (there were about 30 in each)?

Cheers,
Rat.

Windows XP. I've partially solved it now. Well, not solved, as I don't know why it happened. But I found them. The folder had been renamed. The pictures were all in the format xxxx001.jpg, xxxx002.jpg, &c. The directory is now named xxxx. Not actually 'xxxx' you understand, but you know what I mean. I was saving them straight from Firebird.

Weird.

Sounds like you just saved them without checking which directory Firebird was saving to. Later, when you looked at the folder you assumed they were saved to, they weren't there.

No, I think that's what I'd think if someone else told me the same story, but the directory was definitely called Swiss before. That directory only existed because I created it from the Save As dialogue when saving the first image. I subsequently navigated to it more than once to get to the images.

Cheers,
Rat.
