But Heaven help me... I just can't come up with the tears for these victims.

Westboro Baptist Protesters Get Tires Slashed Following Protest Saturday

To top it off, police say that they were unable to find anyone in town who would repair their vehicle.

McALESTER - Members of a Kansas church that protests at military funerals may have found themselves in the wrong town Saturday.

Shortly after finishing their protest at the funeral of Army Sgt. Jason James McCluskey of McAlester, a half-dozen protesters from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., headed to their minivan, only to discover that its front and rear passenger-side tires had been slashed.

I hope the criminal assailants behind the vicious attack on a fellow americans private property rights get everything they deserve.

Now that's funny.

It would be even funnier if the only garage in town that would touch their car was one owned by the real-life equivalent of these guys...

Pastor Phelps and his flock (the church has no affiliation with any national Baptist congregation) is a family cult. They are trolls whoring for media attention. When they found out they weren't getting enough attention by protesting against "fags," they decided to start trolling the funerals of dead military service members. The cruelest thing you could do to them is ignore them. I suggest you start today.

I can think of a lot crueler things to do, but I'd get in trouble for mentioning them.

Hahaha. Nice. They should have dropped a grenade or two in the engine compartment for good measure. Better yet, wired it with C4 set to explode upon the keys turned in the ignition. Too much?

The image brings a smile to my face, but deep down, I cannot applaud criminals attacking others based solely on free speech issues. I will confess to feeling conflicted and feeling tempted to commit the vandalism myself - but it is wrong.

Of course it is wrong. But at times you need to do wrong. Since the society has, luckily, no legal means to stop these jerks, civil disobedience must kick in.

Of course, whoever does things like that must be willing to face any legal consequences, fines etc.

The way i see it is that progress often occurs by breaking the law. Especially progress in regards to equality.

If it had been a member slashed? Yeah i would say it is going too far, but if it is a person that thought " i am going to slash their tires because it will cause them inconvience, and if i get caught, so be it. " , i say the more power to them. They but their criminal record on the line to do this, and as long as they don't try and weasel out of any consequences, i fully support the action.

Actions like this send the message " you are so repugnant that i will take the chance of being arrested to cause your day to be slightly less pleasent.." and really, that speaks very loudly. Much louder than a counter protest, or ignoring them could. And when taken from a practical standpoint, well it caused them inconvience. Moreso than any legal measure could.

Honestly, and i have always held this mantra. When someone makes a habit of hiding behind the law to do something crappy, the only thing that can be done is to go the step further, and simply ignore the law. Sure, taking the law into one's own hands can be a dangerous precedant to set, but, like anything else responsible people will do it responsibly and irresponsible people will do it irresponsibly. For my money, as long as it is kept to illegal actions that effect their pocketbooks and convience, i applaud and support the people doing it.

When the bully runs behind a teachers skirt, you just wait till the teacher isn't around. Maybe it won't stop them, but it will make thier life a bit less pleasent, and when this gets done enough, it just wont be worth it.

Honestly i think the best course of action agaisnt these people would be an absolute flood of low scale illegal things , tire slashings, vandalisim, anything that would bring their insurance rates up, and make their days a bit more costly and trying.

And that is the biggest part of my support of this. Sure i would encourage people to do things like this with a little bit of subtelty, but if caught, one should not try and get out of the punishment. The willingness to take a punishment for something like this is just as much of a statement as the action itself.

Some years back, when the university was hosting the big presidential debate with not one but three candidates (Ross Perot...)....We had a "designated protest" area where you could sign up and stand in a little construction-fenced area with your sign.
One of the protesters was the WBC bunch complete with "God Hates Fags" signs....

This was perhaps not the best venue for this message, a very liberal Midwestern university...
Students began heckling the WBC folks and eventually ran into their fenced area and stole their signs.
There were a lot of police present... Not only the debate but we were expecting Ralph Nader and his rag-tag group of mixed protesters to show up.
However, when Mr. Phelps began shouting that people had stolen their signs, we all turned our backs.
He got disgusted and left.

God bless the Westrbo folk - They should stage more protests.

How many other ways do you know a small community like this town could muster so much passion and presence for something they believe in. Honouring a man who died for his country

That to me was the best part of the story too. They come into a town they do not live in, and protest at the funeral of the fallen soldier about something that has absolutely nothing to do with the soldier. Bad things (even criminal) happen to them, but because of the disrepect they showed to the grieving friends and family of the soldier (which could be most of the town if it is a small town) nobody is willing to help them out of thier predicament.

And the folks who refused to fix thier tires did nothing illegal or immoral and still got to treat the WBC as the reprehensible scum that they are.

That and they managed to turn a simple tire repair into a full wheel replacement from all the driving around on the rims.
