I found this as an older item but wanted to still post it

A United States Marine was found guilty of homicide Tuesday in the 2014 death of a transgender woman in the Philippines.

U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton, 20, met 26-year-old Jennifer Laude at a nightclub in Olongapo City, northwest of Manila, while the Marine was on a break in October 2014 after joint military exercises in the Philippines. Pemberton, who was then a private first class, claimed that the violent incident took place after he discovered during sex that Laude had male genitalia and that when he fought her he acted in self-defense, Reuters reports. Laude’s body was found near a Navy base in Manila.

Pemberton reportedly admitted to choking but not killing Laude. A witness testified that Pemberton said, "I think I killed a he/she" after the incident, the Associated Press reported.

According to current wisdom, he instead should have reported her to the police for rape-by-fraud.

Most likely been drinking, if not very drunk. Poor decision-making skills at that age even in non-stressful situations. In a new country, one with rather lax rules ( ;) ), and just plain horny. Then he gets a surprise and things get out of hand. Nothing new there. I've taken custody of a few troops from the SPs at Olangapo, and they usually were hoping the cops would keep them instead of giving them to me. :D

If he punched her, it would be battery and maybe some kind of deal could be reached. The problem is that he killed her.

He is also from near Boston. . . . Massachusetts already had laws protecting Transgenders. Doesn't really have the idea that he had never been exposed to transgender issues.

You're thinking soberly, clearly and rationally. Three things I doubt happened that night.

Whether he was rational or not, he committed a serious crime which resulted in the death of another human being. You don't get "oops" from that, you get punished. If nobody died, something might be worked out.

Well...I guess the lesson for the Transgender Community is: don't screw with the United States Marines (unless you want to die in screaming agony with your head shoved down a toilet).

I didn't imply otherwise. I was pointing out that he was young, dumb, and full of ... i.e., the text-book definition of an idiot.

I used to live in upstate New Hampshire but moved down to Massachusetts for six months before I joined the navy. Had a coworker at a plastic manufacturing company whom stated that he had a boss make a pass at him and he "Whooped the faggot." (my words not his)

Maybe I just found his son?

In all seriousness, this guy's buddies probably thought it would be funny to take him to a "ladyboy" bar and see what happened. What happened wasn't good.

Well, I am pretty sure that his buddies assumed that he would not commit murder :boggled:
