Paranormal guru Uri Geller is testing whether extra sensory perception (ESP) can work over the internet, using BBC Wales’ website as his laboratory.

Every day from Wednesday 13 March until Sunday 24 March, Uri will challenge people to join him in focusing their thoughts so they can see for themselves whether mind over matter really works.

He has set up three fun tests on BBC Wales' website for North East Wales - www.bbc.co.uk/wales/northeast - where people can try using their minds to fix broken watches or to see if they can bend a spoon without touching it.

Uri will channel his thinking on the tests at 11.11am and 11.11pm each day, which is when everyone is invited to click on to the website and have a go. According to Uri, the times have been specially chosen because the number 11 has mystical power.

Hello Claus,
I brought it to your attention without noticing that it was already a couple of years old. (March 13 is a Sunday this year!)

But the Scandinavians might like to know that tonight, Thursday 24 February, the BBC Prime shows this programme:

Uri Geller
Episode 1
21:55-22:45
In 1973, self-proclaimed psychic Uri Geller captured the attention of the world by bending a fork on television. What was so remarkable was that he claimed to do it using only the power of his mind. This film tells the fascinating story of a charismatic showman and his struggle for credibility and lasting fame - an enthralling tale of politicians and scientists, spies and aliens.

Ah, OK, it's an old experiment. Well, we should know what the results will be, then. ;)

I'd love to see this, if anyone can record it for lil ol' me. I'll cover the expenses and return the tape pronto.

A good show! Covered everything from James Randi's debunking of Uri Geller on the Tonight Show (Geller was not a Johnny Carson fan!) to Geller's messages from the planet Hoova (?!).
I didn't tape it, but maybe Claus did!

... and? What about it? What do you think about it? Contribute something.

It was on late last night, so I set the video to record it. I haven't watched it yet.

Some of the things I hadn't heard before:
Back in school Uri Geller was the kind of guy who would run around a wall faster than the other boys and then try to persuade them that he had jumped over it: a born mythomaniac.
A sociologist, I don't remember his name, theorized that due to the ability of many people to compartmentalize their thinking, Uri may cheat and at the same time actually believe in his own paranormal powers.

Overall, a good programme.

Although occasionally somewhat seemingly credulous, the programme portrays Uri Geller as the media hound that he basically is. Yes, he starts out as a pathological mythomaniac, and he never changes one little bit.

Everything that Geller has ever done is meant to inflate his status. After exposure after exposure, there is nothing he will do to get that coveted attention. Thoroughly humiliated by his own defeats, he will continue to seek attention from anyone who is willing to give him just that - and only that.

Geller is not in it for acceptance anymore, but simply for attention.

"Hoova"??? WTF was that all about?? Can anyone doubt that Geller is a pathetic fake after that one?

Unfortunately so. There are actually people out there, who believes that Geller has real "powers". And that's what keeps him out of the food stamps league.

Who said skeptics aren't needed?
