Ukraine drifts towards civil war

... Seems quite conceivable that it could break down. Or will they step back from the brink? Now that the challenger has taken an oath of office (which has no legitimacy), things are certainly bowling along.

At least they've given up their nuclear weapons. While I don't suppose they'd use them in a civil war (a pyrrhic victory if ever there was one), I'd not be too happy about a loss of control - there are a lot of people around who'd like to get their hands on them, and a country having a civil war would seem likely to take its eye off the ball.
 
I'm not sure if things will get as far as civil war; I'd certainly hope that both Russia and Europe try to mediate before this happens. However, things do look to be very tense out there. It could be that the attitude of Ukraine's security forces may be critical as to how long this stand off continues. I can't help but wonder if they have the stomach for putting down a mass movement. I hope not.

As I already said in my thread on this subject (;)), there are rumors that the security forces, including the army, are just as divided as the population is - and that they might fight against each other.
