I see from the media http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3658489.stm that our "liberal" goverment is trying to introduce identity cards using the twin canards (Huey and Dewey ?) of protecting us from the perils af terrorism and stopping our overworked medical and social service systems from being stripped bare by asylum seekers.
Let's just get a few things straight:
- It's a large government IT project; that's spelled F-I-A-S-C-O
- Nothing much can happen for several years
- Percentagewise, the leakage in resources due to illegal aliens is dwarfed by our home-grown fraud
- Requiring photo-id is unlikely to deter someone who is willing to be a suicide bomber
