Very funny, but poorly photoshopped. The first thing that jumped out at me was the fact that the US flag is reversed, isn't it? Aren't the stars always supposed to be in the upper left, regardless of the flag's orientation?

Read the snopes page; that's how they really are.

The flag patch is right, the stuff underneith is is PS'd in.

See the Snopes article. Apparently the flag is always supposed to look like it being carried forward. So it's backwards because that's what it would look like if it was being carried by a charging standard bearer.

Keep reading the snopes article. It addresses the reversed flag.

You mean my scoutmaster lied to me? That backstabbing son of a bitch...

Edited to add: Ha! See, I was right about the flag code itself, anyway. Still I can't expect to go up against the US military and win every time, can I?

And it does look "wrong," because U.S. federal code calls for the canton to always be positioned to the left.

So there. Nyah.

The snopes article quoted above has a very interesting explanation of why the "reversed" flag on the right shoulder is actually correct.

Anyway, any soldier or veteran would tell you instantly that this is a fake, no snopes article needed: no soldier would ever think of adding unauthorized patches, flags, or other items to their uniform to make some silly joke, any more than they would think of adding sergeant stripes to his uniform because he thinks he deserves a promotion, or dying his uniform pink or organge because that would look cool.

It's just not done. By the way, this more or less proves to me that "RichardG", for all his uncle-sam-with-bombs avatars, was never in the army...

Is that soldier even in Iraq? Judging by the terrain, it doesn't look like it.

IIRC, in addition to uniform patches, the U.S. flag is "reversed" in other appearances as well. For instance, I'm recalling the starboard side of each space shuttle.

READ THE SNOPES ARTICLE!

You're right, it doesn't. The location is undetermined.

he is in Iraq. Those are plates of delicious lime Jell-O in the background that they will be serving to the Iraqi school children after they thank us for everything.

Plates? Looks more like a whole fish tank (Sham-oo size) full of Jell-O.

That is exactly what crossed my mind when I saw the photo.

edited to add: "A PLEDGE PIN!!!! ON YOUR UNIFORM??!!??"
