WASHINGTON - For as long as there has been an America, whites have made up a clear majority. But that will change by 2050 when minority groups will be 49.9 percent of the population, the Census Bureau (news - web sites) says.

Asians and Hispanics will see the most dramatic increases between now and midcentury, when the U.S. population will have grown by almost 50 percent to reach 420 million, according to bureau projections being released Thursday.

America will get older, too. Nearly 21 percent of its residents will be age 65 or older, compared with 12 percent now.

I hope this doesn't cause racial strife in the future.

In my experience, more exposure between different groups of people over a period of time tends to lead to less tension.

Regardless of the content of this specific prediction, I never understood the points of making predictions 50 years into the future.

If the predictions made in 1954 about America in 2004 had come true, Americans today would be flying to the moon for work on their private space ship. Of course, when his hard work fighting communism is done on the moon for the day, our average American will go back to his stay-at-home wife who is perfectly satisfied to own a fully-automated kitchen and watch soap operas on 3D television.

What better way to end racism than by mixing the races together!

White Black ect... these lables are inventions of society. Over the last generation interacial relationships have skyrocketed. How often do people marry the in the same ancsetry anymore?? Its considered old fashion for an Italian to go out and find another Itaillion to marry.. THe result, we're all becoming mutts!! Its good forthe gene pool and who doesnt want a mocha hue skin tone.

This is a good thing. You can see it now in the black/hispanic comunities sort of merging. Lots of blacks speak spanglish.

As we mix it sqeezes out the racists. How can you be racist against hispanics when you 1/4 Cuban???
