Congolese liberation church celebrating
Christmas in the last week of May
because The Annunciation allegedly
happened in August and presumably
even virgin births take 9 months...
What has gone wrong here?

Iranians are flocking to foreign gurus
in translation, defying their ayatollas to
obtain self-help books and tapes.
Because they are not signatories of any
copyright treaties, bootleg editions of
bad translations abound. Prominently
featured: Harold Robbins. Could this be an
opening for books on critical thinking?

According to the realluy old tradition Jesus was born and died on the same day.

Yep. April 6, 4 BC

(Not supposed to think about the "BC" too much?)

Oh, I suppose he would have died something like 33 years later right? Would be silly to beleive Jesus was born and died on the same day but I never argue with the mods. :D

I would say that both dates , that of the Anunciation and that of the birth of Christ, were stablished arbitrarily in later centuries to do away with already existing pagan festivities. The misplaced celebration in May is but another example of flawed logical thinking, i.e. applying logic without being in possesion of all the facts.

I'm not familiar with the work of Mr. Robbins, so I do not understad what is being implied.

Much the same situation in Russia, as Randi has observed. The much-vaunted reliance on science under Communism proved to be a haven for unquestioned acceptance of the official position.

Now, the place is a haven for religious zealots, psychics, faith healers, and other woo-woos.

Just a quibble, presumably if we are talking about self help books, is this Anthony Robbins?

No, they are really hard up for books, so they are all trying to decipher old copies of The Carpetbaggers, and The Betsy.
