By Tucson I mean about ten houses east of my home. So far the news has been very vague and the information I recieve from officers on the seen is little more than a shrug and a , "It's ok."

typical vague story on the event

The reason I posted this was that one of the reporters stopped me to see if I new anything. I didn't but she said the guy that lived there had references to McViegh and other such things all over his facebook page. She wouldn't tell me his name. She wanted to know if I had ever meet the guy, I had not.

This may turn out to be nothing of the sort but I don't like its proximity to my home!

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Tucson police say they still don't know why a man had a cache of hazardous chemicals in his mid-city home.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Diana Lopez says specialists safely removed nearly all the chemicals by midday Tuesday. Police were waiting for an FBI expert to examine the materials.

Sounds like the refrigerator from my first apartment was somehow smuggled to Tuscon.

After reading your link, he clearly sounds like a terrorist.

You should move...not because he is a terrorist, but it's hot as hell in Tucson about now.

Won't someone think of the children?

Its not hot. Its just gods way of showering us with love.

Do you leave your computer online when you go to bed? Some of the venom and filth might have seeped out of JREF and schlocked its way down the street.

Quick way to check: ask the materials if they support Dawkins or Watson. If they have an opinion you have your answer.

Hazardous Materials could be just about anything. They're probably organic solvents and some not-too-common reagents. I wouldn't worry unless you see a mobile lab with guys in moon suits. Then again it might be nothing but I wouldn't sweat it from what you've written.

Perhaps among the materials are some who support one and some who support the other. A volatile reaction between the two would account for the man's injuries.

Yesterday afternoon there was a mobile lab, various covered tents and guys in full hazmat suits with oxygen tanks.

I got the apparent name of the person and his fb page does indeed quote mcviegh and the uni-bomber. I am not going to post that name as I have no proof it was him.

Its just a wait and see deal I guess.

Look I am not paranoid or crazy and if this was happening anywhere other than a 7 iron from my front door I would could care less.

Its frustrating that there is a hazardous material spill that sent a guy to the ER with critical injuries, SWAT, FBI, TPD, and hazmat crews responding and the best news on it is about 20 hours old. There hasn't been one informative article about this event. I have cops securing the property by night and FBI by day. The last interesting thing that happened in my neighborhood was a missing cat.

Yay Google!

July 11
Neighborhood blocked off due to possible explosives in home

July 12
FBI to investigate hazardous chemicals in midtown, evacuations possible

July 13
FBI expected to arrive at hazardous chemicals scene today

The second link has a nice news video, and another news story is to be shown tonight.

Best information is a man playing with chemicals in his house suffered bad chemical burns. He went to the hospital, where he informed authorities his house may be on fire. Police responded and found a quantity of unknown chemicals which are being analyzed to determine how hazardous they are, and just what Mr Wizard may have been doing with them.

I am aware of those stories and 3 days on they contain the exact same amount of info they did on day one. If there was nothing else to the story I can't imagine why the reporters are camping in their cars.

I know I am being a little neurotic but thats my home and my community. I hope this is just a mr. wizard did something dumb situation.

I guess it's time to be a little concerned. Maybe call the Mayor's office, tell them how close you live to the scene and that you want to know if there's anything that could happen to you as a result of what's in that house or what those materials could do? I think you have a valid worry and they should understand that.

In AZ "hazardous Materials" was typically cop-speak for a grandma run meth lab, though that term kind of fell out of fashion after the real estate bust

Although this is generally true, the news report I heard specifically stated that the chemicals were not used for synthesizing methamphetamines. I used to live midtown, close to that neighborhood. I am glad I moved to the east side of Tucson. There have been far fewer public disturbances on this side than when I lived there.

Biscuit, sorry to hear that happened so close to you. Please let us know if anything else pops up. I agree that the media is being pretty vague.

Sounds like a meth lab. I wouldn't be too worried unless it was right next door or a rental you owned.

From the last news update linked above:
TUCSON- For the third day in a row, Tucson Police are at a midtown home where they say they found a cache of chemicals on Monday.

On Monday, an adult man was severely burned in a small explosion at the home.
Oh yeah, definitely a meth lab.

Did you read my post above? Oh well, from this news article:
Authorities have confirmed that the house does not contain a meth lab, but no word on exactly what the chemicals are or what they are used for.
