I'm genuinely curious.
Let's leave aside the ridiculous, like actually shooting someone on Fifth Avenue; and the already happening, like throwing Ukraine under the bus.
And ignore the possibility of his turning liberal, or gay, or atheist or something.
What could he do that you would consider stepping over the line? Openly allying with Russia? Invading another country to seize territory? Declaring himself President for life?
I promise I will read all responses, even if you are on the list that shall not be named. Maybe even take you off of it.
Anti-Trumpers: Let's give them a while before piling on, okay?

I regret to say many have already drunk the Kool-Aid. One of the marks of being in a cult is the inability to think of any circumstances under which you would leave, even if staying hurts friends and family.

Oh well. It was nice while it lasted, @Trebuchet .

He could make flu shots mandatory, that would do it. If you include that idea in the ineligible category, than I doubt there's anything he could do. Maybe cancel all social security retirement benefits. Maybe.
(I detest Dump. This is just my prediction on what it would take to de-program his cult.)

As I said previously, Trump could tear live babies apart and eat them raw at a live press conference, and the MAGAchud would cheer him on. That, by definition, is a cult that probably cannot be deprogrammed. The only realistic solutions are natural attrition, physical segregation, or culling.

Actually pull off his Nero Decree. It will only be after he completely destroys the US that the modern day nazis will come to their senses.

IMO this is a bit of an unfair thread. Let's turn it on its head and say "What thing or things would Biden have had to do for you to withdraw your support from him ?"

I'd find it quite difficult to be specific and it would probably come down to him abandoning the concept of social justice and a functioning government which is quite a subjective thing to judge IMO.

Likewise with Trump. He promised to shake things up in government and he's certainly done that. He already showed his hand as an autocrat during his first term and his disdain for the democratic process on January 6 2021 so those are already baked into the decision to vote for him. Likewise the targeting of immigrants, especially those of colour, for harsh treatment - that's a campaign promise. He's on record with his views regarding Social Security and Medicare so his plans to dismantle those are also part of the decision to support him in 2024.

If he completely suspends the electoral processes (let's say that the "invasion" of illegal immigrants makes it necessary) then I think that may give some people pause for thought but IMO it's far more likely that the democratic process will be hamstrung and neutered rather than abandoned altogether.

For the more selfish Trump supporters the breaking point may come when they themselves have to suffer. Many will find a way to blame others, the deep state, Musk, Democrats, but others may realise that it's deliberate GOP policy which is making them poorer, sicker and less well educated.

I guess the Red Line has already been crossed, given the people Trump appointed.

Well, I'm not American, but that would be easy for me to answer. For a start, being a coward when it came to supplying Ukraine. Not having the good sense to stand down before the primaries would be another.

The thing is, though, there are a lot of things he could do that would have made me lose support for him. Obviously the treshold is higher in a two-party system, especially when the alternative is a literal Neo-Nazi regime, but to us people who are not in a cult, we follow the politicians we agree with (or at least disagree with the least) and drop them if they drift too far from our interests, or if there's a large enough scandal.

Would I drop a politician in a heartbeat if they bragged about sexual assault, made fun of a disabled reporter, or incited violence at his rallies? Yup. The Drumpf cult, though? They defend everything he says and does, and when they can't, they go into frantic whataboutism mode. Ask them what Dump could do that would make them stop supporting him, and they can't answer.

There is really nothing. He went into the debate slightly senile, but he was no worse than Reagan II. Plus we had a vice president to fall back on. Biden had gone on for too long, he was a 4 year guy. But I have never voted for a Republican. There is nothing a Democrat would not be able to do that a Republican needed to do. I never voted for Bush Jr or Sr. The entire GOP only has one plan: cut taxes and reduce the federal government to nothing.

When Trump endorsed the vaccine during his last term, he was openly booed by his flock. I feel confident they don't love him, but love what he stands for and legitimizes. If he backs off key positions, they'll RINO his orange ass in a New York minute. All they need is Trump 2.0, the more palatable upgrade. VP Vance is scary to me on that front. He can be a charismatic charmer when he turns it on; the debate with Gov Walz showed that pretty clearly.
