Funny how our troops seem to be doing a better job than our press when it comes to asking Q's.

Obviously this soldier is a liberal commie traitor who hates america.

Quit Your Whining, We need that Money for More Stealth Bombers!

CAMP BUEHRING, Kuwait (Reuters) - U.S. Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has come under fire from troops who took up his invitation to ask tough questions about Iraq.

Hundreds of soldiers applauded a comrade on Wednesday who complained to Rumsfeld that U.S. troops were being forced to dig up scrap metal to protect their vehicles in Iraq because of a shortage of armoured transport.

"Why do we soldiers have to dig through local landfills for pieces of scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass to armour our vehicles ... (scrap) that has already been shot up, dropped, busted, picking the best out of this scrap to put on our vehicles to take into combat?, the soldier said.

At Camp Buehring in Kuwait, 20 km (12 miles) south of the Iraq border, Rumsfeld faced other questions about equipment shortages and the U.S. role in Iraq after elections scheduled for January

Probably because their lives depend on the A's.

A bit of a change from the inane cheering he received a year ago....

It's a shame a soldier didn't shove a grenade up his a$$.

And did you hear Rumsfeld's response?:

"As you know, you have to go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you want," Rumsfeld said.

That's a beaut!!

John Stewart, the floor is yours.

Its not like these guys have freedom of speech either. Questioning your superiors can mean trouble. The guy has some balls.

I remeber th 60 Min story on the lack of Hum V armour. Its sad that we have so much money to rebuild this n that but not enought for basic protection for the guy on the front line.

Instead of armor-plating the Humvees, howzabout using all those "Support Our Troops" bumper stickers? There are certainly enough of those to go around.

you have to go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you want

If this doesn't sing recruiting promotion, I don't know what does!

To heck with "be all you can be" or "an Army of one"

"You'll do 'cause we don't have time to get anything better..." will stir the imagination of many young people into serving their coutnry. I am sure the inspiration for this attitude comes from working for GWB and knowing of his inspired military service ...

Geez, and the Bushites flipped out over Kerrys "Wrong war, wrong time" comment as being anti-troop.

I like it too...."THE ARMY: BECAUSE YOU GO WITH WHAT YOU HAVE." :D

I like the way Rumsfeld elaborated on his answer:

"I've talked a great deal about this with a team of people who have been working hard at the Pentagon... if you think about it, you can have all the armour in the world on a tank and a tank can be blown up. And you can have an up-armoured Humvee and it can be blown up."

Oh, well, there's no real rush to armor your vehicles because even if the armor could save your life in a firefight, the vehicle could still somehow be destroyed in another way! I think the Department of Homeland Security could save dumptrucks of money using this logic. "We're cutting back on airport security - no more of those silly metal detectors or bomb-sniffing dogs. After all, you could strip-search every single passenger, but some terrorist on the end of the runway with a Stinger can still blow up the plane!"

You have to admit, this rationale is consistent with the administrations attitude toward many things. Isn't this the same logic used to talk-off Stem Cell Research? Didn't Laura Bush say something along the lines that Stem Cell Research need not be pursued because we were along way off from any cures anyway!

WHo wants to bet that the vehicle toting Runny around Kuwaitt was heavily armoured??

Your right. Rummys car comes with Holy Water, wooden steak, and silver bullet sheilding. ;)

To repeat my complaint from the other thread on this topic...

Strange behavior. Being the architect of Bush's most massive screw-ups, he was the cabinet member most likely to take a 2nd term dive and get lost. But then he's re-upped (maybe by backdoor draft?) for another term. And then he goes and makes himself more hate-able than ever. I think he's trying to get fired.

Rummy quote:
You can have all the armor in the world on a tank and a tank can (still) be blown up...

Translation: F+ck off and die.

We had twelve months of the Bushies limiting press conferences, limiting attendence at political rallies, and limiting follow-up questions during the debates. Given how well this briefing went, I predict twelve more months of limited access to the players.

That's particlularly rich, since Rumsfeld went to war with the army he wished he had, not the real one that his generals were telling him about. The PNAC calls for a more flexible, more mobile, hyper-equipped army of super-soldiers, and Rumsfeld seems to have assumed that it came into existence by decree when Bush was elected. Not so, Mr Secretary.

And when someone revs your Humvee with an AK47, you're not concerned about blast damage. It'd be nice if the bullets didn't get in.

What. A. Bozo. And he's still got his job - can't they find anyone else willing to take it?

I'm not Jon Stewart, but I can take a swing at it.

"As you know, you have to go to war with the Army you have, not me," Rumsfeld said.

There's the army that we have, and the army that we don't have. And the army that we don't know we don't have, and the army we know we don't have. And there's the army we have that we don't know we have, and the army that doesn't know what we know they don't have and at this point I'm going to stop and wave my arms in a let's-have-group-hug sort of way.

Chef: "How come all you guys sit on your helmet?"

Soldier: "So we don't get our balls blown off."

Israel who have more experience of amoured warfare than anyone else probably have the world's best amoured tank. So far the palistians have managed to knock out 1 and that involved a massive mine explodeing directly undernieth the thing.
