This morning I've been inundated at work with e-mails from a new troofer mailing list that I don't recall signing up for. Most of the messages are something to the effect of, "Please take me off this mailing list."

Anyone else have this problem? It's advertising a new website, www.reinvestigate911.org.

I'm guessing some troofer forum I signed up for, and was banned from, years ago is mining email addresses.

Yup. Same thing here. I sure wish people wouldn't hit "reply to all" when hurling expletives and demanding to be removed from the list.

On second thought, that's kinda funny.

I got the same thing.

Even worse, if your email address was spoofed as the return email address of the spam email, any replies requesting to be removed would be routed to you. That's why the rule is to always simply delete spam and never reply or click on any 'remove' links. It will either signal that you are indeed a valid email address ripe for spamming, or it will be sent to somebody who never sent the mail in the first place.

The problem is, when you reply to an email list, it's reply-to-all by default.

I replied with a short message saying they've been added to our spam filter. Sure, I didn't NEED to tell them that, but I just couldn't resist.

Dylan.. Dylan...

Did he not either direct or play in some pr0n movie?

Yep,I got 11 of them, did even bother to open them, marked as junk. My guess is they are coming from the UK forum but hey, who really cares ? :)

I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often. I tend to regard 9/11 troof and the way it's promoted as a spam e-mail of a message, and there aren't many low-down tactics I see troofers taking the high road and not using to promote themselves, so I'm surprised I don't see "9/11 wuz an inside jobby job!!!!1! look @ the video proofs!!111!!!" in between "85% off savings on rolex VVatches" and "cheep generic v!@gra and c!@l!s!" in my spam folder.

If you want this thread to stay here in this section, where the most likely affected people will read it, I think you should focus the discussion on how to handle such spam.
