Transatlantic Airliner bomb plot trial begins

I'd like to point out that although there was some skepticism on their ability to detonate these bombs, I heard from a member of the terrorism team in december that they had carried out successful tests.

Not sure if that breaches some kind of secrets act, but the person in question seemed alright discussing that with me.

Indeed it is.

Our judicial system sometimes gives the wrong impression to people in countries such as the US where major criminal prosecutions are discussed openly in the media up to and including the actual trial. In the UK there tends to be silence after charges are made against the suspects until the actual trial.

I've seen postings where it's has been taken for granted that the threat of these bombs was over-hyped or even non-existent merely based upon the fact that after the initial arrests hardly anything more had been heard about the case.

So it will be interesting to see how 'truthers' react to this trial....if the 'truther' media even bothers to report it.

This is very common in all commonwealth countries. It is about the accused right to a fair trial and not biasing the Jury. Over here we had the spectacular "Terrorism raids" last year which are still to go to trial (though on Guns and other weapons related charges, not terrorism) There has been very little in the media about the cases themselves of late because they are subjudicy.
 
Isn't this more evidence that police work and intelligence are what can keep us safe rather than foreign military adventures?

Police work is what keeps us safe, while foreign military adventures stir up a hornets nest.
