In the past few years, the House Ethics committee issued three admonitions against Majority Leader Tom DeLay. This year, the Repbulican who headed the committee and two other Republicans who voted in favor of the admonition are no longer on the committee. Instead, they have been replaced by two House members who have donated money to Tom DeLay's defense fund. The Republicans have given up any sense of impartiality.

Two other House Republican donors, Lamar Smith of Texas, who has given $10,000 to DeLay, and Tom Cole of Oklahoma, who gave $5,000, were placed on the House ethics committee this year, a move that drew criticism from House Democrats given the possibility that it might investigate the majority leader.
