Time for Steve Bell to move on.

I enjoy reading the Guardian Unlimitied online. (I really enjoy the price - free.)

I like their perspective even if I don't agree with them all the time.

However, the cartoonist Steve Bell seems a bit tired to me. His cartoons seem to be an endless parade of George Bush as a chimp and Blair as a poodle.


I get it...In fact, I got it the first 1000 times you drew it.

Maybe time to move on...here is latest
 
Now you mention it, I haven't been impressed with many of Steve Bell's recent cartoons. Some of his stuff from a few years ago was brilliant though.
 
Until now, I had not been attentive to any of Bell's work, however, it is standard practice for cartoonists to create a caricature of a public figure and stick with it. That makes their cartoons immediately recognizable.

It is also well known that being a cartoonist is a horribly demanding job. Gary Larson (The Far Side), possibly the best cartoonist of all time, chucked it all, as did Bill Watterson (Calvin & Hobbes). The pressure to come up with something new and funny every day of your life is a bit much. It should be no surprise that many ideas get recycled.

However I have long loved that Daryl Cagle site.

Do you usually wish death on people who disagree with you? :p

Anyway, I love Steve Bell's stuff. Whilst his drawing style is not exactly to my tastes, and I don't always agree with his message, he always evokes a wry smile. But I'm biased; anyone remember the Thatcher years, and especially Bell's take on the Falklands War?
