Or whatever it is called where the printer prints out segments of a picture, which you can then piece together for a large picture.

Is that a function of the printer, or does one need special software?

I'd like to make some big prints for the baby's room.

Most CAD programs will let you tile large drawings on whatever printer is attached to the computer. Depends on what software is generating the output. I just looked through the help files on Photoshop Elements 2.0; no mention of tiling.

Best I can do in five minutes.

It's software based, sadly the standard Office package cannot do this, you need Micro$oft Publisher. I once had a freeware copy of Clarisworks that could do this also.
Edit: I just noticed that my freeware version of ACD/Chemsketch has a poster-mode as well, its a quite nice program but I don't know where you could find this old version on the web today but their new 8.0 version might also be good.
