Those tidy atheists

This past weekend I was down in northern California visiting family. On the way back to the Sacramento airport, we passed one of those "This section of road sponsored by..." roadsigns, and I'm 99% sure it said something like "Atheists and Other Freethinkers."

Anyone know the story behind this? I have to wonder if it caused as much of a ruckus as when the KKK had a similar sign put up.

We had the KKK bit here as well, and the local legislature went round and round on it. They finally broke down and let em' have thier sign, which was promptly stolen. (sawed off at the base)

Then, they hit on the clever idea of re-naming that section of highway after a local black activist.....hehe.

As long as they clean that section of highway every once and a while, I don't care WHAT the sign says....
