At this time, the JREF is working with Thomas Bowe on his protocol, which sounds very promising!

Thomas claims that if he is given photographs of people with their birthdate as well as a false birthdate printed on the back, he will be able to tell, by the individual's facial structure, which is the true birthdate.

Because this would mean he had a 50/50 probability of getting the date right for each individual photograph, we are working with Thomas to see if he can tell which is the correct date out of a higher number of false ones - something like ten possible dates printed on the back of each photo.

In order to ensure the JREF is correct about the individual's dates of birth, we will be using drivers license photos.

If you are interested in participating in this test, and trust the JREF with your driver's license information, please send a clear scan of your driver's license to challenge@randi.org.

Thank you very much for participating, and I hope to hear from all of you soon so we can get the ball rolling on this exciting test!

Thank you Thomas Bowe for your patience, and thanks to the JREF and all of you for making it happen!

P.S. Please keep in mind that if you have your birthdate posted on the forum for a birthday announcement, then you probably shouldn't send in your driver's license photo. Instead, send a spouse's, or your child's! Please do not respond to this thread stating that you have submitted yours, as we want to ensure the identities of the individuals in the photos remain secret until after the test is completed. Thanks again!

Thomas believes it will take too long to use ten dates for each photograph, as it would mean running through the facial characteristics associated with each date and comparing them to the photograph one at a time.

Since this stipulation would mean we'd need thousands of driver's license photographs, we are in talks with Thomas to find out whether or not he could use any number of dates greater than two.

If not, the protocol negotiation ends here and we call it untestable. If so, we're going to need even more driver's licenses than previously thought, so please begin harrassing your spouse!

Thanks for all who have participated so far,

Remie

Mr. Bowe is unable to use a higher number of dates for each photograph.

The claim is, therefore, not within the scope of testability, and his file is now closed.
