David Blunkett, according to this article, thinks those who have been wrongfully imprisoned should be charged £3000 a year for the priveledge of being locked up. I mean, all that food and lodgings doesn't pay for itself, now, does it?

Someone tell me that the Sunday Herald makes this stuff up. I don't want to live in a world that has loonies like this in charge of the British Home Office.

I think there's something about being Home Secretary that instantly turns people into evil, bigoted fascists.

The Blunkett-o-matic (http://www.qwghlm.co.uk/other/blunkett.php ) is not a joke. He could have said any one of these things.

That's fuct-up, If anything the government should be paying the wrongly imprisoned.

Every time we have a new Home Secretary these days, I think he can't be as dodgy as the last one, and every time I'm proved wrong.

First we had Michael "something of the night about him" Howard. I thought he was bad until Jack "boot" Straw came along. Pah. Mere amateurs compared to David Blunkett.

Isn't Britain Great?

Not sure which is worse:

The fact the Home Secretary wants to charge them for board and lodgings; or

The fact that the compensation paid for the mental trauma of spending 25 years in a cell is £0 (according to Paddy Hill on Radio 5 this morning). The only amount paid is what you could have earned if you weren't banged up - nothing for trauma, distress etc.

Wonder if the former Camp X-ray detainees will be getting a bill for their board and lodgings? :p

Jack Straw- that's the guy who said don't give money to the homeless for their own sake, wasn't it?

The accommodation was basic, but the personal valet service was superb.
