THEY work in mysterious ways

Hardcore Atheists will be familiar with the "God works in 'mysterious ways'(tm)" argument, by which any contradictions or nonsequiters in God's alleged behavior are dismissed in a single sentence.

Doesn't it seem like Truthers do the same thing, just with different words? Like I'll ask a guy who believes Flight 93 was shot down, "Why? What's the point?" Or I'll ask someone why Building 7 was demolished. Or why THEY(tm) carried out 9/11 with these elaborate, overly-complicated Goldberg-esque plots instead of simply crashing planes into the desired targets and letting whatever happens, happen.

The general (should I say, the ONLY) response I get runs along the lines of "Well, THEY(tm) have the resources to do anything, so they could get away with it" or perhaps "I'm sure they had SOME reason, but there's no need to know what". Or the "You're asking me to speculate" dodge (imagine if a prosecutor in a formal trial was asked what he knew about the suspect's motive, and only responded with "You're asking me to speculate").

What's the point of shooting down Flight 93?
What's the point of blowing up WTC7?
What's the point of the explosives placed in the "squib" locations?
What's the point of detonating a bomb in the basement?
What's the point of the elaborate Pentagon "flyover" plot?
What's the point of planting a black box containing flawed information at the Pentagon?
Why not just forget about the planes entirely, plant bombs in the WTC and blame THAT on terrorists?

Answer:

THEY(tm) work in mysterious ways(tm)

WE JUST NEED ANOTHER INVESTIGATION BECAUSE THE OTHER ONES WERE TOO HARD TO UNDERSTAND OR SOMETHING!!!
</truther>

;)

Seriously though, the answer to all those questions is quite often seriously "we don't know, which is why we need a new investigation".

Wait...

YOu're saying that they wwant a new investigation because people can't answer questions based upon patently absurd hypotheses?
And they figure a new investigation will reveal the answers to questions about their far-fetched fantasies?
They're going to be waiting a looong time for an investigation that yields the results they want, then...

That's pretty much it.

Take for example the question "What's the point of blowing up WTC7?". Their answer is just "we don't know why, but it was, so we need a new investigation".

It's like a patient saying to a doctor "I have aids". Then, the doctor responds "how do you know?". The patient then says "I don't know how, but I need a test done to show that I do".

Say, when we get that new investigation, can we tack this question on as well?

"Why does Santa live on the North Pole?"

That's easy, and it's not a conspiracy.

It's simply the fact that Canada rules!

Nah. Russia's laid claim to the North Pole. Santa's a commie. I mean, just look at all that red he wears. :p

Leaving aside the whole geographic v. magnetic north pole discussion, the postal code smacks of a conspiracy. H0H 0H0? Who's kidding who here? ;)
