Theological Atheism

Seems like walking on both sides of the fence. “Yep, God exists, but don’t tell him I said so.” :)

From your first link:
Theological atheism: The belief that God exists, but he does not want us to believe in him.
So, does “believe in him” mean worship, or believe he exists.

". . . we can conclude he wants to remain invisible and not be acknowledged or worshipped."

So, you can believe he exists but you cannot acknowledge it. If you cannot acknowledge or worship Him you can't go preaching to anyone. You can't even pass on your knowledge of God to your children, they will have to learn evolution.

Joyce Arthur has found a way to put an end to Christianity in one generation. That's the beauty of the argument. :D

hey this might be in the bible somewhere. i'll see if i can find it

(Jer 12:1 KJV) Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously? {2} Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.
oops, that's not it. i'll try harder

Hmm...that would explain the medical prayer studies, too. And even the slight increase in death for people who were prayed for. It was a sign..."Stop looking for Me. I'm not going to be found and you're starting to get on My nerves".

I like it.

"if you reject God from your life while still accepting that he exists, you could be called a theological atheist."
Actually, wouldn't that be more like a satanist?

No. Rejecting God is not the same as accepting Satan. It doesn't even mean that Satan is involved with their beliefs at all. I'd simply call this kind of person an antitheist, meaning "against god-worship" as opposed to "without god-worship", as "atheist" means.

If you believe God exists how can you reject God from your life? I can see rejecting an anthropomorphized view of God, but it seems silly to reject any view of God that holds God as the source of Being. That's like saying, "I reject existence" which is a contradiction, as we all know.

What if you're against god worship, because you don't believe in any gods? or would that just be an antitheist atheist, while what she's discussing would be an antitheist theist. Damn, it's getting confusing now, lol

Yep. And it gets worse. Tack on the concept of gnostic versus agnostic, and you can have an agnostic antitheist athiest.;)

No, actually, you can't be both antitheist and atheist. I worded it poorly. An antitheist is against God, not just the worship of God. Yes, a Satanist could be one kind, but belief in an opposing power is not required. You could simply think that there is one supernatural power, and you oppose it. However, you cannot be against God without first believing in God.
