The White Only Scholarship Battle
Well, apparently the students at Roger Williams University decided
to one-up the culinary tastes of their conservative brethren across
the nation by creating a whites-only scholarship, an idea I wish
someone would have thought of much earlier.

This is the finest way to protest the double standards of state-financed
hate I have ever seen.

The Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution was created to guard
against these kinds of discrimination, but apparently is a transparent
clause when applied to whites.

The CNN article went on to say, “The application for the $250 award
requires an essay on "why you are proud of your white heritage" and
a recent picture to "confirm whiteness."

They should probably have applicants try to dance to top 40 music to prove their whiteness beyond all doubt.
 
These young republican clubs are filled with grade A azzholes. They dont bitch about sholarships to Polish or Irish americans. They just want to hate on minorities.

As for discrimination??? maybe they didnt notice that Roger Williams is 90% white.

Once again Tmy you have completely missed the point. There are all kinds of _private_ ethnic scholarships. These students were trying to raise the issue of _government_ funded discriminatory scholarships. (however, they had to use private funds for their 250 dollar whites only scholarship so I guess some people don't get it).

The ironic of it was the person that started it was a minority, a Puerto Rican.

I agree, but something is wrong somewhere when people get upset over private money going to Whites Only Scholarships.

Cause when you say "whites only" its more like "no blacks hispanics asians ect..." Your not really out to help a group, your out to spite others.

If someone was 1/2 black and 1/2 white would they eligible for this scholarship? No? Why not, they have "white" in them. Theyd be elegible for a black scholarship.

I know and you had better not say White pride either, because that makes you a racist. The way I understood it was, if you got aid that a White student couldn't get, then you couldn't get this. So if you were 100% WASP, and you were able to get a Black scholarship, then you weren't eligible for this one.

He just wants all people to have the opportunities he does. He has pretty big balls if you ask me; most "minorities" seem perfectly fine with benefiting from racism. This guy is challenging that.

It makes it even worse (for them) when this "minority" is standing for principles the "liberals" themselves claim to champion (but really don't).
 
Opportunities!?!? The reason you get these state programs is to make up for the the past discrimintaion suffered. You knowmm the years and yaers of racism that kept minority students out of schools denied them funds.

Next they'll be complaining how there are now white reservations, and how racist it is for the Indians to have them.

The program was botched in the first place. A hardship is a hardship. If the problem is, you are too poor to go to school, it doesnt matter the reason why. Why not just up financial assistance for poor students instead of targetting blacks?

I know we have all these newly freed slaves running around. And without old Master to look after them they are like lost children. Uncle Sugar will be their new Master and take care of them.

For scholarships and other things of this sort, where some sort of minority membership is concerned, what kind of proof is required of one's racial identity?

I remember the census forms here asking some mealy-mouthed question about "what group to you most closely identify with." Something tells me that this question is not trustworthy enough when we're talking about scholarships, or say, multi-million dollar government construction projects.

SO we should fight discrimination with more discrimination?

Does that mean in 50 years the black descendents of those who benefited from affirmative action should be discriminated against? After all, if things like affirmative action and race based scholarships are in place to make-up for past discrimination, we will surely need some more discriminative programs in the future to make up for current discrimination.

Does one punish the son for the crimes of the father?
You cannot make up for the past because all those who
were wronged in the past have died. All you can do is make
the future a little better for those who are here now.
