The Ten Commandments President?

Does he stand anything of a chance as Gov of Alabama, or is he wasting his time running for that, too?

"The question is whether he does it in a way that will help conservatives or whether he tries to do it in a way that could make him the Ralph Nader spoiler of the right in 2004."
I hope he runs .....

Any Christian who believed this was about anything but Moore's overwhelming ego and desire to hold higher public office is fooling themselves.

I hope he runs and spoils Bush's chances. After all, evangelicals are already frustrated with Bush for being too "liberal"(not Taliban enough).

I'm encouraged by the fact that nobody seems to think this guy has a serious chance.

If he did have a serious chance, then I expect that my liberty, health and well-being would be in serious jeopardy. As a rule, religious nuts don't make good leaders.

:dl: I am all in favor of leaving the two ten commandment monuments up, because the dogs need somewhere to relieve themselves.

Being that I live in the same state as da Judge (purely because that is where my paycheck is), I htink it more likely he would set up to run for office in Bama. The Governor is a fairly conservative Republican but got into hot water by trying to raise taxes on account of the state being so far in debt and already ranking 47th in state services--guess we're going for 50th, the proposal failed and the Gov's still backing water from that.

So he could run for Governor, or since Pres. Bush has now made the recess apppointment of Bill Pryor, he could run for the vacant Attorney General slot--just the thought of it gives me the shakes.

In legal briefs, he argued the decision sets a "dangerous precedent" that requires judges to deny their oath of office by barring acknowledgement of God, which is stipulated in Alabama's constitution.
Particularly annoying and dangerous concept. Just because the word "God" appears in his oath means, in his fevered imagination, that he is required to use his office to promote his religion.

On the radio this morning, I had heard on the Glenn Beck show that Moore is currently organizing a party to make a presidential run on. I have been unable to confirm this. I will keep searching, though.

In looking for news about Moore, I stumbled onto this, from Yahoo and AP:
A federal appeals court upheld a ruling Wednesday that a Ten Commandments monument must be removed from a city park in Plattsmouth [Nebraska].
...
But in Wednesday's ruling, the appeals court said the monument's message "is undeniably religious," noting the commandments are said to come from "the Lord thy God."

"It is one thing for Plattsmouth to say one should not steal; it is quite another for Plattsmouth to say there is a God who said, 'Thou shalt not steal,'" Judge Kermit Bye wrote.

I hope he runs for pres, and that he gets pounded into the floor like a tack. That should put the rest of his gubernatorial and leadership ambitions in serious doubt for a while, at least enough for the disciples to cool off and fall away.

Hopefully he'll take a good chunck of the evangelical X'ers with him. Not fair that the Democrats should have to put up with Darf Nader and the Repugs go spoilerless.

Follow up to a story mentioned above:

Duluth sued over Ten Commandments monument from the Star Tribune and AP.

The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals (the Eighth Circuit includes Minnesota) recently upheld a ruling that a Ten Commandments monument must be removed from a city park in Plattsmouth Nebraska. Nevertheless, the Mayor of Duluth has decided to spend taxpayers' money to defend another Ten Commandments lawsuit, this one brought by the Minnesota Civil Liberties Union:
Mayor Herb Bergson has vowed to keep the 7-foot monument, which has been on the City Hall lawn since October 1957. It was a gift to the city from the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 79. The Eagles donated many such monuments throughout Minnesota.

"His position has been that the monument will not be moved until he is ordered to move it,'' said Jeff Papas, a city spokesman, of Bergson.
A local church offered to take the monument onto its grounds, "but was rebuffed." On suspects that it was Mayor Bergson who did the rebuffing, turning down a chance to save his constituents some money.

Not that some people can be taught how to write.

No one asked me about any Islamic teaching in public schools anywhere. Now, lacking any proof, I will take this as you asking if it is my opinion that this be allowed. The answer is no. That is also a clear violation of Church and state seperation.

As for your assertion about public school teachers brainwashing their students to be "socialist/democrats", first, let me say the two things are far from identical. Second, I graduated from a public high school a little over ten years ago and it was an incredibly conservative school with a serious christian bent. So I think we are trying to find the middle right now. We will, but the pedulum is going to swing back and forth for a time while we look for it.

When I was in 6th grade, we were taught about Judaism, about Islam, about Christianity, about Hinduism, and about Buddism. We were not taught that the US Constitution is based on the Bible and the Bible was not used as a science textbook. Now, people complain if religion may not be taught as science and American jurisprudence.
