Just today! Like a 3% drop and the guy on The Noon Business Hour here says he is out of stocks completely and does not recommend that ANYBODY try to catch a falling knife.

S&P 500 1,283.43 -38.54 (-2.92%)

Thx, I usually just browse here, looking for info. I usually post over at the lunatic asylum that is ATS.

Short selling is the opposite of buying a stock and then selling it higher.

First you sell, then buy back at a lower price.

Works great in a down market, especially with NASDAQ or S&P futures.

Since I can't submit links, try investopedia - short selling.
