Wich are the TV programs that best support the "official" 9-11 story? Wich are the shows whose establishment connections cause the CTers to defenestrate thier boob-tubes in disgust?
Here are my personal picks:
1.) Stargate: SG-1
One thing that conspiracists and TV sci-fi writers have in common is that they never let the laws of physics get in the way of a good story. SG-1 is no different in that respect. Siomething else the CTers would enjoy about this show is the running subplot involving dark and malicious shennaniggans by the ficticious "N.I.D.", a rogue agency seeking to control the Stargate for thier own ends. Add to that the usual references to Area 51 and a formal alliance between the US military and the standard "grey" type aliens and you have a sci-fi show almost perfect for conspiracist entertainment.
Unfortunately, the vague similarities between the fictional universes of SG-1 and the conspiracists ends there. The main plotline in SG-1 started in its first season with humanity facing a threat of invasion and subjugation by religious fanatic aliens led by more powerful aliens claiming to be gods (the "Goua'ld") then evovled towards its current plot wich has humanity facing a threat of invasion and subjugation by religious fanatic aliens led by more powerful aliens claiming to be gods (the "Orai").
A sci-fi equivelant of the current war on islamofacist terror is at best, circumstantial evidence for shilliness by the SG-1 cast and crew. But nothing says "shill" quite like having the US Air Force Chief of Staff guest star on the show not once, but twice! Both General Micheal E. Ryan and his sucessor, General John P. Jumper have guest starred on SG-1 in uniform playing themselves.
2.) JAG/NCIS
This one is a no-brainer. If anything, the "ripped from the headlines" plots that 9-11 and it's consequences provided added a good five years to the life of the military action drama and its navy-cops spin-off. There's no way these guys would ever rock the boat. That and, unless I'm mistaken, if you're a producer who wants to get on aircraft carriers and military bases to shoot footage or if you want military technical advisors, the Pentagon requires that your program or movie portray the armed services in a positive light. Pushing conspiracy theories that have the Military participating in and covering up the murder of 3,000 americans would be poison to shows like JAG and NCIS. These shows are shilly because they can't exist otherwise.
3.) Law & Order
The best crime drama to ever grace a TV screen. L&O practically invented "ripped from the headlines" and has benifitted from the 9-11 plot idea goldmine nearly as much as the military shows.
After that, the blatant shilliness of L&O really takes off. Past guest stars include a special cameo by 9-11 loony target Mayor Rudy Juiliani. The current District Attorney on the show is played by former republican senator Fred Dalton Thompson. Thompson also holds his own special place in CT histroy as a former participant in the Watergate hearings.
The 2004 season premiere of Law & Order broke the needle on the shill-o-meter with a starring line-up ripped from that years republican convention in New York City. Series regular Thompson along with guest stars NYC Mayor Micheal Bloomberg and Ron Silver (a Joe Leiberman style democrat who's switched sides for the duration of the War on Terror) all addressed the convention in NYC. the only thing that'd make the cast and crew of L&O more shilly would be degrees in structural engineering.
Those are my picks, anyone else have any others?
