The time has come to mobilize working people for our own agenda. Let us end subservience to the power of the privileged few and their monopoly of the political process in America.

Come together, brothers and sisters. Join The Million Worker March on Washington as we launch a great movement for social change. Let us forge together a social, economic and political movement for working people. We are the many .The secretive and corrupt who control our lives are the rapacious few.

Let us mobilize together through our unions, labor councils, social and community organizations, friends and neighbors everywhere. We are on the move and we shall not be denied.

---Demands---
(my comments in parentheses)

Universal single-care health care from cradle to grave that ends the stranglehold of greedy insurance companies and secures health care as a right of all people in America.
(agreed!)

- A national living wage that lifts people permanently out of poverty.
(maybe not)

- Protection and enhancement of Social Security immune to privatization.
(not sure)

- Guaranteed pensions that sustain a decent life for all working people.
(not sure it's possible)

- The cancellation of all corporate "free" trade agreements, including NAFTA, MAI and FTAA.
(impossible)

- An end to privatization, contracting out, deregulation and the pitting of workers against each other across national boundaries in a mad race to the bottom.
(impossible)

- For workers' right to organize and for a repeal of Taft Hartley and all anti-labor legislation.

- Funding public education in a crash program to restore our decaying and abandoned schools with state of the art school facilities in every community.
(totally agreed)

- Funding a vast army of teachers to end functional illiteracy in America and unleash the talent and potential of our abandoned children and adults.
(impossible, and illiteracy is not a major problem)

- Launching

a national training program in skills and capacities that will enlist our people in rebuilding our country and putting an end to both the criminalization of poverty and the prison-industrial complex.
(agreed)

- Rebuilding our decaying inner cities with clean, modern and affordable housing and eliminating homelessness in America with guaranteed housing and jobs for all.
(totally agreed. why does a rich country have slums?)

- Progressive taxation that increases taxation on corporations and the rich while providing relief for the working class and poor.
(agreed. did you know that many companies get out of paying any tax?)

- An end to the poisoning of the atmosphere, soil, water and food supply with a national emergency program to restore the environment, end global warming and preserve our endangered eco-system.
(agreed)

- Creating efficient, modern and free mass transit in every city and town.
(hard to accomplish)

- Repeal of the Patriot Act, Anti-Terrorism Act and all such repressive legislation.

- Slash the military budget and recover the trillions of dollars stolen from our labor to enrich the corporations that profit from war.
(totally agreed. the military is a tool of the rich. the US doesn't need to spend money on useless endeavors)

- Open the books on the secret budgets of the Pentagon and the intelligence agencies in the service of corporations and banks and the pursuit of imperial war on the poor everywhere.
(um, not sure what this means)

- Extend democracy to our economic structure so that all decisions affecting the lives of our citizens are made by working people who produce all value through their labor.
(ok, getting a little "woo woo" here. not even sure what this means.

- An aggressive enforcement of all civil rights and a national education campaign and mobilization against all racist and discriminatory acts in the work place and in our communities.
(good god. there's enough talk about racism in this country. spare me.)

- Amnesty for all undocumented workers
(TOTALLY OPPOSED to this. it just invites more of them in)

- Increase in federal funding for the Arts in public schools
(yes)

- For a democratic media that allow labor and all voices to be heard and oppose monopolization and union busting of media workers.
(the US media is controlled by 5 corporations. and the LAST thing I want is for the government to get involved. so never mind about this one)

Live in USSR when it was.

Oh. What are the biggest practical problems with socialism? Day to day problems, not philosophy.

Why can't people in the United States perceive those problems, or do they have answers to all of them?

Well relying on government to do "everything right" would be the biggest one. The other big one would be belief that everyone could be "equal." I don't know how you can overcome either.

So the government bureacracy makes alot of mistakes in management? And trying to make everyone the same, bringing everyone to one point of equality is a waste of time?

Or you could just stay home, and launch a successful drive for a new Constitutional Convention.
The we could vote directly on our next government.

;)

Yes.

You sound like a IWW apparatchik magically transported into the twenty-first century! Your program was discredited back around the Truman administration! Ya sound like Lenin suddenly sat up in his coffin and started babbling! Whoever programmed you probably intended you take your act to The Comedy Store - he was just joking with you, don't you get it? :D

Good luck with the march, comrade.

eenie meenie chili beany, the spirits are about to speak...

I predict that it will get nowhere near a million. Any takers?

For as nasty as this election is and the evils done by the current administration, I wouldn't trade it for socialist/communist model.

I prefer for govt being "for the people" rather than the other way around. There are checks and balances, but sometimes it takes a while.

A fair amount of the points don't sound too unreasonable to me. In fact quite a number of them are similar to much of Britain following the creation of the welfare state by the Atlee government.

Anyone for a chorus of the Internationale?
