The Grand Illusion

Well, when we're all dead gone, what is there to believe in? Certainly not in the fact that we exist, correct? So, what I would like to know, is who is this grand illusionist -- and certainly it must be nothing but grand -- which makes life so believable while we're here?

You realise, of course, that not every random bit of fecal matter you dribble out in a post deserves to start its own thread, right?

The only illusion I can see is that you think you make any sense. It certainly isn't grand, and you certainly aren't a grand illusionist.

Besides, even if it was all a big illusion, that doesn't require an illusionist. The illusion could simply just be.

I'm afraid not. If you believe in cause-and-effect, then even the illusion must have a cause. And no, I don't claim to be the one who set the whole thing up, if that's what you mean? ...

Not at all. If it's all just an illusion, it's not bound by the physical laws of the universe. And cause and effect are one of these laws.

And even if it had a cause, this cause doesn't need to be the entity you're so poorly trying to promote.

ETA: And you are only setting up a minor illusion, is what I meant. The illusion that you make any real sense. Nothing grand about that, only self-deceptive, since everyone else can see through it.

Believe what you want until you die ... and then what? Surely if there was nothing there to believe afterwards, there was nothing there to believe to begin with.

If everything is an illusion and there is no reality, then wouldn't that illusion be our only reality?

Unless you know of, and can show us about "real" reality?

And whos to say that when we die we don't just cease to exist? zip, nada, nothing. why the big fear? If there is nothing after we die, we won't be around to know it.

It's all relative is it not? The only question is, relative to whom ... or what?

Aw. And here I thought this thread was going to be about Styx.
What's that, the River Styx? Would you be willing to swear by it? I am, and I just did ...

Aside from that though, I don't know what the heck you're talking about? ... Oh, nevermind, I just remembered, the album ... Right?

For us who do or seek to do what is good and right, to be kind simply because it is good and right and seek no reward for it if at death there is nothing that is cool. I would do it all over.

now perhaps some people ( no names) only do what is good and right seek not to harm others simply in hopes of a big daddy giving them a special gift. these people like to think they are moral, they of course are not.

This is purely a matter of belief.

Is fact, unless you can prove other wise.

The 2nd part

Now this part contains both fact and belief.

The fact is that many people do only do what is good in hope of some reward.

The belief is that they may get it and that there is a God.

I just want to remind you that after the arrival of Dr. MAS, you need to make a greater effort if you want to continue to be the perons on this forum who makes the least sense.

I herby nominate Iacchus to the very prestigous titl: The JREF forum's most boring troll of 2005. Whenever his logical fallacies are shown to him, that quote and "Believe what you want until you die..." is everything he can reply with. Can you say "repetitive"? Sure thing! :D

Yep, the crime is in the embellishing, don't you think? ;)

Let's not be hasty. There's an awful lot of 2005 left.
