While driving to work this morning, I was listening to the BBC on NPR. They interviewed the author of The God Gene:

I was impressed with this little 5-minute segment. The commentator was well-informed, asked pithy questions, pointed out studies from other researchers that seemed to confirm or deny the premis of the book, and so forth.

His conclusion that the book was probably mis-titled was agreed to by the author, who said that it was the publisher's decision!

Sounds like an interesting read, BTW, I may put it on my list.

Several cuts above much of the "science reporting" we get domestically.

My comment about this on another thread was that the author is taking some data and offering an hypothesis. But what about the many other hypotheses the data also supports?

My hypothesis is religion is a side effect of the way our brains are hardwired to find patterns and associations. As the human race matures and makes more careful observations, scientific observation and logic are going to be more successful than religion and superstition. Hopefully, science will replace magical thinking eventually.
