One of my favorite archaeologists is Israel Finkelstein.

One of his wonderful books is

• The Bible Unearthed

I have just discovered on youtube a video series in 4 parts based upon the book above.

Two other wonderful books of his are

• David and Solomon: In Search of the Bible's Sacred Kings and the Roots of the Western Tradition
• The Quest for the Historical Israel: Debating Archaeology and the History of Early Israel

This video is very informative.... saves you having to read the book .... but the book is fascinating and has lots more information and details.

I've been watching the youtube as well ( about to watch ep 4 ). There are a lot of things in there I have never heard before (such as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob all actually being the same character/legend, merged together into a family tree as the region united). As I googled about the show, I also found claims that some of the theories in there are controversial.

Yes.... it is controversial to people with religious and other agendas. Just like evolution is controversial with them.... and science in general. Just like Dawkins is controversial.
