My aunt got the robocall yesterday (noonish in Dublin) telling her that her Prime Video subscription would automatically renew unless she pressed 1 and spoke to an agent. It's gone up too, €79 now.

This hasn't been around for a few months and I don't know how widespread it is but if you know anyone who might fall for it please warn them.

And remember, waiting to talk to someone and then blasting an air-horn down the phone (after pretending to speak very quietly) might be illegal in your jurisdiction. Therefore I am not suggesting anyone do this.

US Customs and Border Protection called me from Poland and said they were holding a suspicious package and would be coming to arrest me unless I pressed 1.

I received the Amazon one yesterday. Also, the service agreement is expiring for my car about three times a day every day for the past few weeks.

I get the service agreement for my car about every day. You get the option to be added to the DNC list but it doesn't do any good.

The IRS calls Canadians to tell them they have to pay thousands in back taxes, before the cops, who are on their way of course, arrest them.

Whenever I get these types of calls I tell the caller that I'm tired of running from the law and want to turn myself in, it definitely messes up their script.

I got a call from a 'medium' one day. I told them I foresaw in their future that they'd get hung up on. Then I hung up.

I had such a call while I was on a free 30-day trial of Prime (which I'd got accidentally while I was trying to buy something without taking the free trial), which I intended to cancel. I assumed it was genuine and treated the caller to a blast of temper about exactly how I didn't want her Prime and intended to cancel and if I was charged a penny there would be serious trouble. I don't think she quite knew how to react.

One of Eir's recent freebies here was Prime Video for basically all their customers, I was curious if that had triggered the return of the scam.

Almost all robot calls nowadays and I just hang up. Couple of days ago a recorded voice began to tell me about my Amazon Pri<click>.

Last time a real person called trying to scam me I told them I'd have to go check whatever it was they asked about. Placed the phone down and went on with whatever I was doing. Time passed. I could occasionally hear them calling out and they hung on a lot longer than I would have done before they gave up.

An hour or two later another call came in from someone who just yelled stuff in a language I didn't know and hung up. Guess they finished their shift and had had a bad day robbing vulnerable people.

I definitely don't condone verbally abusing people who work in call centers, over the policies of the company that hired the company they work for.

Working in a call center, even for a company as scummy as Amazon, does not justify being abused for doing your job.

The IRS is going to audit me, and unless I call them at the number provided, I will face criminal charges.

Sadly, I never get a live person on that scam. I really want to work on all the frivolous arguments I can remember.

I don't single them out for abuse. I abuse everybody who calls!

It does for telemarketers, though. I mean you took the job, knowing you would bother people in their homes to try to sell them something, right?
