That wacky Blaine is up to it again...

Blaine's previous feats of endurance include balancing on a small platform for 35 hours

This is not correct.

I saw Blaine on his pedestal (a very accurate description), and he had handrails he could use, when he got too tired. And the platform wasn't all that small.

I wonder What Peter S Thinks of David Blaine?

Since Peter Is a Magician Like David Blaine but Might not do the Same THings He Does

I think Blaine is more like your old sideshow showman, doing wacky things or the old style 'sits on a flagpole for several days, roll up and see' sort of spectacle.

It's just an bygone display done for modern times.

At least “ordinary” people know who he is and not just magicians so he must be doing something right.
For every well-known magician there must be hundreds that no one remembers; you know that guy…who did that thing…can’t remember his name though.

I never could understand how these types of things got to be associated with magic.

My first guess would be Houdini. He was immensely popular at performing both magic and "death defying" stunts. Somewhat similar to the juggler/magician thing.

Aye, but most of his feats didn't take more than a day to perform, with Brits hurling produce at him. And how long can that free diver who was on Ellen hold her breath for? Surely longer than nine minutes.

I think they are magic since they involve deception.

In his ice-block thing he gave the impression he would be "frozen in time" and had to do lots of special training using tanks of iced water etc to get used to it. But when I saw him he was in a sweater and then later he'd taken it off - presumably because he was too warm!

So when they had to cut his trousers off and rush him to hospital, I can't say I was too worried about his health.

Nah, it was all a gimmick, 'cause the Masked Magician pulled off that same trick of being encased in ice. The temp inside was a balmy 70 degrees F. Everything about the tomb of ice was showmanship. . .and not very good showmanship at that :P

I understand Blaine next plans to jump the English Channel, eat an Anglican cathedral, and tunnel to Java. This, according to his manager, Mr. Luigi Vercotti.
