America's most famous extortionist has "fears" about Sudan.

Jesse Jackson Raises Concerns Over Sudan - Tue Aug 24,11:49 PM ET
NEW YORK - The Rev. Jesse Jackson said Tuesday he feared that the humanitarian crisis in the Darfur region of western Sudan could potentially grow to the scale of Rwanda's 1994 genocide when more than 500,000 were killed.
Thanks for the info Jesse ...now how are you going to milk it for fame and fortune?

Meanwhile...

Officials Say Sudan Militias Still Armed - Wed Aug 25, 2:29 AM ET
UNITED NATIONS - As a U.N. deadline for action nears, the Sudanese government has not reined in Arab militias accused of attacking, raping and killing villagers in the western Darfur region, diplomats said a U.N. official told the Security Council.

We wouldn't have known it was a problem unless he said something about it.

I for one think that there's absolutely zero wrong with Jackson using his influence to bring more attention to this problem.

With friends like Jesse Jackson the villagers in the western Darfur region don't need enemies. The only reason he is saying something, 18 months too late, is he can use it for personal gain.

By the way here's a book for you if you are interested aerocontrols.

I doubt you meant this statement the way it sounds, but you might be wary of comparing Jesse Jackson to the enemies of the Darfur villagers. Even were Jackson 10 times the creep you think he is, I'm sure the Fur people would trade him for the Janjaweed and the Govt. of Sudan in a heartbeat.

That may be true, but I doubt it. If you want to convince me, show me how he stands to gain from it.

Shakedown: Exposing the Real Jesse Jackson
by Kenneth R. Timmerman [/B][/QUOTE]

I'm aware of what kind of man he is, though I haven't read that book.

I often find myself in agreement on one issue or another with people I don't particularly like. Jackson & I appear to have common ground on the issue of Darfur. This makes me happy, not angry.

Perhaps you are angry because Jackson is late to this issue. Better late than never, I say.

Maybe Jesse Jackson will find some dead martyred leader in Sudan and wipe his blood on his own shirt.

MAybe so. I just agree that Jesse is a loud mouth who uses his influence to chase his personal agenda. With that much power he would better serve mankind by chasing all issues.

All issues? I doubt he has the time for that.

He appears to be on the right side of this issue, though.

I might criticize him for doing something I don't like. I won't criticize him for this, and I can't figure out why anyone who wants action taken on Darfur would.

The article says he's trying to convince Ghadafi to take a harder line against the Janjaweed. Ghadafi probably has quite a bit of influence with the Sudanese government. If progress is made because of Jesse's actions, so much the better. If not, where's the harm?

I have no issue with helping the Sudanese who are being wiped out. Having a professional extorsionist raise the red flag just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Well no. I don't blame him for trying.

Thanks to Patrick , I now know why Jesse Jackson probably should have stayed home.

Can anyone verify that the '1000 people dying every day' number comes from the EU and UN, or is Jesse just promoting our cause by exaggerating the deaths?

/at least he hasn't called it "Selma" yet...
