MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF News) – The valedictorian at McKinney Boyd High School dropped a bombshell in front of thousands of people at a graduation ceremony this week.

Larissa Martinez announced during her commencement address that she’s an illegal immigrant. “I’m one of the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the shadows of the United States,” she told the crowd. “People who have become part of the American society and way of life and who yearn to make America great again without the constriction of a wall built on hatred and prejudice.

What would Canada/Mexico do in this situation? I've heard Mexico has some harsh immigration laws.

Hey, she's taking scholarship money away from all those Good Old American valedictorians with 4.95 GPAs!

Why does she think the wall will be built on hatred and prejudice? I assumed it would be built on earth and stone.

They came in as tourists 6 years ago and refused to leave. So brave, so very brave.

Why do you have to be brave? Being honest, if I was in Mexico, I would try to cross the border any way I could as well. The US, for all its issues, is still a better place to live.

then obey thier laws

Have you ever watched the movie Working Girl?
Tess McGill: You can bend the rules plenty once you get to the top, but not while you're trying to get there. And if you're someone like me, you can't get there without bending the rules.

Do I understand this correctly? Mr. Desert Fox is advocating breaking the law as long as you have reasons...? Is that correct?

ETA: I think I'll go rob a bank and claim I needed the $$ for a new computer.

I don't really expect desperate people trying to get to the US to respect our laws. Which is why I think a wall is a good idea. It makes the whole controversy about how to deal with illegal immigrants (which is fraught with difficult moral questions) mostly moot.

Do you drive exactly the speed limit wherever you go? If you do not, you break the law.

Nup. All it will do is create opportunities for Texas and NM building firms to be paid zillions of YOUR taxpayer dollars over many years to build a showpiece and man it with strutting would-be sharpshooters that will do precisely nothing to stop or even slow illegal border crossings. The whole idea is way more impractical that the Maginot Line in 1939.

Didn't stop the French

No doubt. If you're caught doing it, you get a ticket and a fine. If you're going fast enough you might even go to jail and/or lose your privileged to drive.

BTW - Comparing speed limits to immigration law is one of the most stupid comparisons I've seen in a long time.

Only because you don't like it

I don't think anyone including Trump is actually talking about a physical wall made of wood, stone, concrete or steel. Many advocates in the border states advocate a combination of measures to include electronics and sensors and increasing the border patrol. I think in some areas a physical wall might be appropriate, but in others locations it wouldn't. Nothing will likely totally stop illegal entry, but if there's a will to stem the tide I think it's feasible to reduce it significantly. Also, exit monitoring is also needed because the vast majority of illegals are simply visa over stays...

If you think it's such a great comparison why don't you advocate eliminating all speed limits just like you're advocating an open border, then see what happens.

To be honest, there would be issues but we would then adjust.
Actually one of the advantages with open borders is that migrant works (skilled or unskilled) have the ability to return home.

There have been so many panics in the past about immigrants - the Irish, the Germans, the Italians, the Jews, the North panicking about blacks emigrating to the North. In the long run, we adjusted when they came into the country.

Edit: This is ultimately where your sentiments can go

You sure?
Trump said:
"So you take precast plank," Trump said. "It comes 30 feet long, 40 feet long, 50 feet long. You see the highways where they can span 50, 60 feet, even longer than that, right? And do you a beautiful nice precast plank with beautiful everything. Just perfect."
