How many of us have seen those huge, programmable traffic information signs while driving down the highway? Here I'm specifically referring to those on the I-270 corridor in Maryland (if there are others with different messages than the one I'm talking about, I'd love to hear about them).
In the wake of Sept. 2001 these signs continuously posted requests to citizens to watch out for terrorist activities, and added a phone number to call with any information. Now, in the post-Iraqi war world, the message now calls out to watch for "suspicious" terrorist activity, with yet another phone number (sorry, can't remember it right now).
Now, aren't we going a little far here? Lets face it, the average American wouldn't recognize a terrorist in action if they wore those great checkered kheffiyeh (sp?), sat on said American's face and stuffed pipe bombs up his/her nose. At least the Orange alerts these boards also appear on refer to specific crimes and criminals.
But wait, maybe we can start an Informer of the Month contest using these boards. Cash prizes to the family who turns in the most people. It can be a game show.
