Here's a new one on me, from the dungeon at Democratic Underground.
And they're off and running. It isn't until about the 50th post down that somebody notices that later on the OP changed the date as to when John Dean said this:
Well, there's a pretty big difference between saying that in 1973 and saying that "the weekend of Chappaquiddick". Chappaquiddick took place in July 1969. Four years later to refer to it with "If Teddy knew the mistake he was making..." wouldn't be controversial at all. Of course the "bear trap" part is a bit of odd phrasing; perhaps he meant "beer trap"?
The original poster later (in post #53 on that thread) lets loose with a piece of information on the JFK case and the claim that a photo of a couple of bums in Dallas that day included E. Howard Hunt, later involved in the Watergate case. Hilariously he claims:
And that generates this overly credulous reply (#76):
Note: No insult meant here to the many fine folks who post at Democratic Underground, and certainly not to those over there who battle this nonsense. The thread was buried in the dungeon over there, which is 100% in keeping with their admirable policy of not promoting nonsense like this.
For those who don't know, the Nixon White House tapes recorded a very odd comment by John Dean to President Nixon as he was having Nixon sign some papers -- and if I recall correctly Bob Haldemann was also present, if not others. At any rate it was something like John Dean saying to Nixon ... "Wouldn't Ted Kennedy be surprised to know the bear trap he's walking into this weekend." It was the weekend of Chappaquiddick.

John Dean summed it up when he said to Richard Nixon as recorded on the White House tapes in 1973: "If Teddy knew the bear trap he was walking into at Chappaquiddick. . . ."

Meanwhile, speaking of "ears" . . . evidently, they have mottled newer copies of the tramp photos making it especially harder to recognize E. Howard Hunt -- and, btw, Hunt also had his EARS done sometime after these photos began appearing. So they've attacked the recognition both ways.
And that generates this overly credulous reply (#76):
That one of them was concerned enough to get his ears remodelled, at Hunt's age, that's very interesting.
