Teacher Booted for Displaying President's Picture

It's almost as stupid as those teachers who are using purple pens to grade school work instead of red pens, since red apparently induces stress. You don't like red on your paper? Maybe you should stop making mistakes then!

LOL! Yeah, I heard about that, clk. Exactly!

I saw her on Mr. O tonight and thought, "There is something wrong here. This is too simple." I want to hear the school's side before coming to any conclusions. It is very difficult to believe the story as presented.

The teacher gives a radio interview on a Sunday afternoon and Newsmax picks up the story.

I wonder what, if anything, really happened?

Whatever the facts....It won't make too much difference to Newsmax...They never let facts get in the way of a good story.

So are you saying you believe the story is inaccurate, or even false? Hard to tell what people mean when their posts are so often laced with innuendo...

When facts or critical thinking fail, sophmoric sarcasm is the norm.

With all these "current affairs" papers and programs, nothing is ever exactly what it really is. They can easily turn "Jesus walks on water!" into "Jesus can't swim!" if it gets better sales or ratings.

He's saying that NewsMax is so full of sh!t that this article simply cannot be believed outright. Maybe if another news source runs an article on the episode, we can look at it then.

You may choose to believe NewsMax, but I can only warn... you do so at your peril!!!

What is unusual about having a picture of the current president up in a classroom?

My guess is it's pretty common, as it was when I was in school.

This on the other hand, is frightening:

"Students said, 'You like George Bush? He's killed people,'

and makes me wonder about that school system.

The problem with having a picture of the current president is that it appears[/] to be a political statement when it is an election year. The appearance of bias is almost as bad as actual bias.

If she had picture of all the presidents, it would be fine. If she had picture of the last 5 presidents, it would be fine. If she promised to put up a picture of Kerry, if he won, it might be acceptable.

Also note, it was a picture of the first couple. Nothing against Laura Bush but she does not belong on a school bulletin board.

It might be her only chance to be a pinup girl.

If I were a teacher of middle school during an election year, I'd put both candidates pictures up and teach how the election process works, and encourage the little bastards to watch some news and have a class discussion. Maybe make an effort to train future voters to not simply pick the one they like, but to examine issues...but then, if I were a teacher, I'd be trying to teach...

(No I wouldn't, I'd be bitter and angry and drunk all the time.)

Moreover, it wasn't about the picture. It was that she refused to answer a student question about why the picture was there. Her comment is that she "didn't want to bring politics into the classroom."

Which is why she had a picture of the president, I guess.

And what a great opportunity for a teacher to help educate her students. But instead, she refused to answer the question, claiming she didn't want to bring politics into the classroom.

Given teachers like that, should we be surprised that the school system lacks?

Has this been reported by a real news source? ...

How is "Published in the Home News Tribune 10/03/04
By JERRY BARCA and DINA GUIRGUIS... STAFF WRITERS"

the day BEFORE the Newmax story, and containing direct quotes from the parties involved in answer to the local reporters questions, not a 'real' news source?
